I don't know, but it sounds like typical arrogance to me alright. I realise I'm coming off her like a rampant shinner but in truth I'm not - the IRA are murdering scumbags to a man. It would be nice though if the effects of British (lets face it, English, colonialism) were taught in British schools though. Might make them a little less sneery towards us.
You must spread it around etc.

I'm going to see this in a while (feck's sake, non-alcoholic events on a Sat night). I hope it's not completely one sided, though obviously there are definite baddies in the Black an Tans bit. I'm not looking forward to seeing this film though. I love and and am extremely interested in history but when it's anything to do with Republicanism it just starts fights. It doesn't help that my most pro-Ra friend is coming with us. I think I'll just get langers before I go...

this was great

Enjoyed this very much myself. Really brought home how confusing the outbreak of civil war must have been at a small, local, scale. Although I felt the anti/pro treaty sides were presented as revolutionaries/reactionaries in a socialist sense to a greater extent than was actually the case. Good stuff all round though.

go to the imdb.com message board for the film its basically a whole load of english, trying to say that we cant say nothing about the black and tans cause of the provos of the latter of the century.

bet said english havent even seen the film.

I saw this film last night and was quite disappointed. The first half was interesting but the film became progressively duller. The characters seemed no more than ciphers, talking heads. There wasn't enough (IMHO) context given as to why they were fighting or why the British military were present. I suppose it's just a film so historical veracity is besides the point but I didn't find it terribly entertaining either. Saying that, there were some lovely scenes, like the implausible but beautiful scene where they sing Oró Sé do bheatha 'bhaile.

I agree with The Scientician.
It was a pretty average film at best and a really poor Ken Loach film.
I was bored for long periods of the film and the most interesting character (Cillian Murphys characters brother) went missing for a long stretch of the film.
Dull.
