but isnt it the case that if they dont (they meaining whoevers in next spring) that ireland wont be able to borrow the 4bn that we spend on dole anymore?? you guys always seem to look at this to internally. theres lots of other countries and our money depends on them and how we compare to them. we compare terribly at present.

So far we've had no trouble borrowing money, in fact Irish bond issues earlier this year were oversubscribed. Sure, we've to pay more interest on loans than, say, Germany, but we're actually not paying anymore interest than we were a couple of years ago (the interest rate Germany has to pay has fallen)

It depends on how fucked the economy actually is. If it's absolutely fucked, you might be right/

It it's so absolutely fucked that there is a real chance that the IMF will come in, there's a real chance that the government might want to do something about this. Since FFs core support are quite a nationalist bunch, losing our sovergnity will be unforgivable to the type of people who are still voting for them. In other words, the long term survival of the party may be at stake.

Then maybe not.

That's a long shot.

Two ways an election could happen.

1. Greens will pull out

2. FF backbenchers stage a revolt to save their own political skin.

Cowen is going to want to avoid a general election, at almost any cost.

From what I heard on The Last Word, An Bord Snip weren't allowed to report on the senate as they were the ones who set up the report but does anyone know did the report take a look at the amount of politicians we have in this country and how much they are getting paid???

Obviously it's not going to happen but start cutting government wages then work our way down..... It is true that Brian Cowen makes more then Barrack Obama or is that just an urban myth???

Also Ireland has two governemt jets?!?!? In the unlikely event that something should ever happen that requires an urgent Irish representatives to be there they can charter a jet otherwise just fly commercially like everyone else.
