Amazon gives free digital album to anyone who buys the CD (1 Viewer)

Some day soon we are going to see a first sale doctrine upheld for digital downloads the same as for physical media - and it will be a bloodbath.
You'll be able to go online and buy a "secondhand" digital copy from someone not actively listening to it for a fraction of a fraction of a penny and sell it back to him/her after you have listened to it.

What you're also hitting on is whether when you purchase a CD (or DVD or videogame) now, since everything is digitisible, are you actually purchasing a licence to listen/view/play to it in perpetuity as opposed to just the physical artefact?

yeah pretty much. people have agreed to buy a CD in this case, not any licence beyond that.

the spotify model essentially does fractional sale/resale thing already. you never pay a tenner for an album but you pay to use it. people like it.
