One of the best Champions League matches ever. It was actually Sommer that won the match for Inter, with that absolutely ridiculous save from Yamal where he just finger tipped it past the post.
Funny enough when I think about it, the other two greatest CL matches I remember watching were also both Barca games – the comeback against PSG at the Camp Nou, and years before that the infamous 'FOCKING DISGRACE' match at Stamford Bridge where Iniesta scored the goal to put Barca through and Ballack chased the referee the length of the pitch demanding a penalty (which would have been given if they had VAR then, lol)

Awesome match - can't think of a better European semi.
There's a reason why Bielsa never won much over the years. Teams who don't defend well will almost always get caught out by the best teams.
It was 20 years ago recently since Luis Garcia scored against Chelsea at Anfield - haha. John Terry can fuck off.

Was at Shels Pats on Friday night in Tolka Park. Beautiful evening for some football.

First 30 minutes were a slog but the Pats goal opened things up. I like Harry Wood for Shels. Seems a bit of a confidence player, had been struggling for a while but got back on the ball on Friday.

Last minute winner for the LoLs.

Barcelona 4-2 Real Madrid at HT!!
More thrilling fields football.
Barca were twice a goal down. Before Yamal, Raphina and co. sorted it out.

Unfortunately I missed a bus earlier and missed most of first half

West Ham currently above both Spurs and ManU. Terrible season for the Irons, but that's what the records will show. Finishing above Spurs is all they have left.
Forest are guaranteed some kind of Europe, but it will make the hammers forest game next week interesting.

I've been told I won't be at the Charlton playoff game. I'm feeling weird about that. Sad, disappointed, confused.

Barca 4-3 Real
Barca should have had a penalty for hand ball. Both teams had multiple disallowed goals. Both missed sitters.
Amazingly only Mbappe scored in second half.
Barca now 7 points ahead with three matches left.
A Classico classic

Napoli 2-2 Genoa.
Vieira's Genoa were safe in 13th place but an 83rd minute equalizer silenced the Maradona. Big mess up.
Napoli are still 1 point ahead of Inter with two fixtures left Parma (A) and Cagliari (H) both in similar position to Genoa.
Man of the match McTominay looks like a completely different player now. Antonio Conte saw something in him that no one at Man Utd ever did.

McTominay is finally being allowed to play in his best position. He gets to do it a bit for Scotland too, and anyone could have seen that he's really good at that particular role. United were too foolish to realise it, and Napoli got a great deal buying him. Hilariously, United thought they were getting great money for him - but they could have got more if they'd valued him properly!

I'm missing open mic shenanigans in order to listen to Stockport v O's on some obtuse way of listening to BBC Manchester. General BBC is doing some golf business.

I'm quite surprised by how little anyone here cares about non PL soccerball. No one who actually works in soccerball is like that, but for the genpop if it's not ultra raztmatazz, it's nothing. That seems very basic to me. There was some mediocre lad called Harry Kane who once cut his teeth playing for Leyton Orient.

I'm not at this game, nor shall I be at the other semi, annoyingly.

And while writing that, it's now gone 1-1. Drama.

The only country I know of where lower division teams get more attention than England is Germany and that is a recent development as a lot of big clubs have been relegated from the Bundesliga in recent years.
The EFL Championship is one of the best attended and wealthiest Leagues in Europe.
There's a lot going in football this time of year.

Coppa Italia Finale:
AC Milan v Bologna

Bologna's 5th and last Serie A title in 1964 came after a play-off 2-0 win over 1964 European Champions Inter Milano after the teams finished level on points (that rule still applies AFAIK but the situation has never occurred again).
After winning Coppa Italia twice in the early 1970's Bologna began to hit the skids. After 52 years in Serie A Bologna were relegated in 1982. Since they spent 12 years in Serie B, three seasons in Serie C and hadn't finished higher then 7th in Serie A since the 60's until 5th in 2023-24 and now this.
Their Scot Lewis Ferguson was Serie A midfielder of the year in 23-24 but missed the 2025 Euros due to injury.

I saw Bologna play Genoa a few years ago, entertaining 2-2 draw. They play in the great "Do I not like that!" stadium where San Marino scored the fastest goal ever (at the time) against the Brits. Legends.
Bologna was also where David Platt scored in 119 minute against Belgium in Italia 90. I was still tired from holding my breath the day before and was very confident Belgium who dominated the match would win on pens. Feckin' Gascoigne.

This is the ecstastic magic of football!

The Palace have been around for 120 years and finally won a major trophy. Don't think I've seen such a more "I can't believe it! Our dream finally came through" reaction in tens of thousands of people.
Well done.
The Palace were also a yo-yo outfit until the last 10 years but they're now an established PL club. They are as community orientated as it gets in the PL and have a brilliant record since the 1970's for promoting black players (maybe the best in UK).

Emmanuel Kunde (1956 - 16 May 2025)
A giant of Cameroon football, defender Kunde won the AFCON twice and played in the 1982 + 90 World Cups, captaining Cameroon in Italia 90.
Kunde also scored a pen. to equalise for Cameroon v England in the QF in Italia 90.
Sadly Emmanuel is not the first Cameroon Italia 90 star to pass away. R.I.P.
