modding tube amps without killing oneself/amp

To discharge those big @ss smoothing capacitors safely this is what you do: 1. The quick way: You take a plastic covered wire with the plastic covered crocodile clips at both ends (i.e, no exposed wire or clip, available in Maplins, etc) and attach one crocodile clip to the ground end of the...

Native Instruments B4 II with controller

It uses MIDI. So you need a midi interface to your pc. It also has midi learn so you can assign your own hardware controllers to features in the software by moving your controller button/slider and mapping the received midi message to a control in the software. Never used the feature myself...

Native Instruments B4 II with controller

Still going, two interested people so far, 110 is the best offer from SimonPeter, so if no one betters that and he's still on it'll be going his way.

    Loopstation help

Correcto mundo. If you don't reach down with your hands and hit the save button twice then if you switch loops with a plugged in foot switch the original loop is lost. Also found the RC-20 wont allow you to switch to blank loops in memory using a foot switch so if you're original loop is blank...

    Loopstation help

But I think theres a catch with the RC-20XL. Once you switch to a different loop, for the chorus say, you'll loose all that overdubbed recording you did on the other loop, unless you bend down and press the two little buttons (with your hands) to permanently save the loop recording on the first...

Native Instruments B4 II with controller

Had this Native Instruments B4 II with controller for a while and haven't used it lately so time to clear it out. Excellent software Hammond Organ simulation package including the hardware midi controller (big sturdy yoke with wooden sides) with the hammond bars which you can manipulate in...

    expression pedal

I use a Zoom expression pedal with my Moogerfooger low pass pedal (like a wah wah effect) (yeah bit stupid). Works fine but the Zoom expression pedal is crap, cheap and lightweight and not much range in it's "expression". Expression pedal is basically a linear pot as they say, round 100k. A...

    Re-covering vintage gear

Would that be Tolex you are on about, the fake leathery material on Marshalls etc. Comes in different effects/colours. I've only got it on the web from such places as http://www.tube-town.net. Not exactly cheap plus postage. You use that spray-on glue that comes in cans in Maplins or Peats...

    circuit board checker

I've burnt a few chips and transistors in the past making pedals. I ended up always soldering in sockets and then plugging the chip or transistor into that so I couldn't burn the chip. Resistors and Caps on the other hand should be fine if overheated. Check for any dry solder joints...

    The Great Buy Thread

How good are the little builtin microphones on that Zoom H4? Looks like a very handy piece of kit, suppose you'd have to buy one of their stands though to hold it upright if you had other mikes plugged into it.

    Bass through a guitar amp

It'll just damage the speakers (in a tube amp anyways), they wouldn't be designed for the low frequencies and would shake the cones to death, and sound shite in the first place. I have an old 60's Carlsbro amp too which can take a bass or guitar. But they were designed like a PA to take guitar...

    Memory Man

I'd just give my twopence worth opinion on the MemoryMan... I have an old second hand one, not sure what year and how "original" it is, people go on about the old old ones having a better original chip etc. Mines got plenty scratchs so its got some age on it. Anyways.. Pros: 1. great nice...

replacing a fuse in a guitar amp

Its a time lag fuse you need. Tube Amps in particular use Time-lag fuses for the main fuse. Tube amps have an initial surge of electricity, I believe, before the tubes warm up and then everything settles down and you have blissful earsplitting heaven. And solid state ones don't really care...

    GUITAR SOLOS! - Neil Young

I'm a bit late on this thread but have to say 1) second the motion that "On the Beach" should be on the list as its up their with Cortez. And 2) How can "Cinamon Girl" be on the list? its a one note solo, quite impressive against 4 chords but still doesn't compare to his other solos like on...
