The roads are more scary than the flights I reckoned. Saw some seriously scary wrecks on the highway between Addis and Wando Genet. Flights scared me no more than the average Ryanair flight on a rainy day.

Just back from a few weeks in Ethiopia. I really liked it, though the altitude can be a problem. On the other hand it means almsot no mossies. People were great and food is awesome. We did the obvious tourist sites: Blue Nile falls, Axum, Gondar, Lalibela which were all great. Maybe not so...

Went late 90's but found people pretty unfriendly and in cafes/ bars etc pretty untrustworthy with lots of hidden charges. Or a huge menu on the wall with small print that it only applies if you eat inside standing up. When you sit down outside it turns out the price was about 5 or 6 times that...

    Technics (or other) Deck Sought

Been having no fun in the hosue of deceased vinyl rotators and I need a new one. Or someone who can repair an old one (Dual or Shure/Garrard). Was thinking of picking up a technics as a medium term measure (and for possiblke gig use) as it'll be months or years shipping the Dual to SF to...

    Record Player Repair

Dunno if this is the best palce to ask but anyone know if there's anywhere in Dublin that repairs turntables. I've got my Dad's old one which is a serious piece of kit (Garrard) but doesn't work properly. Last I heard there wasn't.

I think I bootlegged that gig too but it sounded like crap, even more so than usual, as I was bouncing about. No idea where the casette is either. Probably in the attic. I'd a pretty complete HOL collection - I even thought Babe Rainbow was a great album - though Audience With The Mind was...

I met a guy years later (he was from your neck of the woods actually) who claimed that The House Of Love was his first gig and he'd lost his shoe. I reckon he'd heard my mates story and decided it was cool. I mean whats the chances of 2 people losing shoes at a gig like that? Couldn't happen.

    Beastie Boys

I think nobody actually bought it when it came out so it passed under the radar. By the time The Man wanted to sue them a statute of limitation had passed, i.e. it was too damn late.

Damn it I'll be away. Would love to go that. Brought a mate who was a few years younger to that McGonagles gig which was his first proper gig. We stayed right at the front all the way through the terribel support band and sometime within the first five minutes of the HOL set we were thrown to...

If we're talking about people dressed up then my vote goes to Duffman - if his costume allowed him to sneak a dozen cans through security in plain sight. Though he was drinking a can of tuborg..."first rule - never get high on your own supply"

Can defo alter your take on things. We were camped in the quiet camping area and were not loving the fucking rave over the fence on saturday night - but one friend on yokes liked it. I didn't notice much bad vibe at this - obviously at an event this size different people have different...

I was particularly impressed by the guys in the toilet area standing next to the urinal and pissing against the wall. But then I think there is a pretty lax attitude to public toilet making in Ireland. I used to have a friend from Texas who had travelled all over the world (she was fairly old)...

Fair enough - he is the kind of frontman that some people won't like - he looked like the guy from Sparks on loads of speed, but still I reckon thats better than the stunning lack of charisma, energy or excitement from the LCD guys. I reckon he seemed to be having a ball and wanted to get...

Outside was kinda scary after they started - so many people that you could've been hurt easily if there was a abd crush or you fell. There was one security guy trying to stop people crushing in but most of them seemed to not give a damn. Seemed to calm down after they played some funk jams...

Sadly its not pure unbridled rock'n'roll, he does that every time - I've seen the Stooges 4 times in the last 2 years. Though once it went wrong and nobody would leave the stage and Iggy got annoyed at them. Mass with Warlords of pez was great but I missed the start and so am missing a...
