Got annoyed by a guitar I bought developing cracks AGAIN after I paid for it to be shipped back to the luthier what made it. He Didn't let the wood season long enough. Couldn't find anyone local as he suggested to do, so I took matters into to my own hands;

I filled the cracks, sanded back the finish.
Stained it and oiled it.
I also made a scratch plate out of some aluminium sheeting I had and replaced the knobs.
It looks more like a travis bean now which is what I wanted originally and the luthier specifically didn't want (to avoid any copyright infringement etc) but fuck him his post sale care was shite for a faulty guitar. Anyway I'm happy back having a new-ish working guitar again

I had the battons glued and in place before I realised I was short of clamps!

They finally came in useful for building other bodies

oiled the body today after a dry fit confirming everything was routed correctly (and did find one or two minor corrections to make).

about half an hour after i took these photos, i went back out to the shed and found the string had snapped and the body landed on the bench. one or two minor scratches and a small dent on the back, where it hit that mylands bottle you can see; could have been a lot worse.

i'd thought the wood was possibly teak but a lad on boards reckons it's iroko. i'd not realised just how much darker the stripes on the bottom half were till i first wet it the other night.

Yeah… it’s utter chaos in there once anything complex or multipart gets going.. I would love an extra few square m

probably sell; my brother in law knows a fair few people into their guitars, so i may ask him if he knows someone interested.

I finally found some non-woke lollipop sticks to use as fret markers. The drill bit wandered as I was drilling the second hole at the 12th fret so it's not exactly under the top one and I'm never going to be able to unsee it.

I always use the old hand drill I found in my father in law’s shed for drilling stuff like that. Still can wander, but will do so with considerably less force and speed

Latest annoyance - the nut I was going to use has gone missing. Oddly, the only nuts gear4music sell are the ones that sit up against the end of the fretboard rather than into a slot in the fretboard itself. Apart from musicmaker, anywhere else in or around Dublin city that might sell them?

Ahem… I might have one. Think I bought a batch last time I got some blank bone pieces for the random weirdo guitars I make. Won’t be back home till Saturday however

cheers - that might work!
they do have this - but ideally i'd prefer a flat bottom; without a jig, getting the curve right in the fretboard slot would be a pain.
