I recently had to reinstall the Operating System after a virus attack

Now IE will not open

I've tried to download the latest version but can't install it as the original IE won't open

Any ideas? Do I need to install an older version maybe?

The windows update tab in Control Panel is not working either (requested lookup key not found)

I'm using XP Service Pack 3

I'm not sure- Windows wouldn't start up- because the virus attacked the kernel.dll

I ran the recovery disc and that seemed to sort it out- but IE isn't working for some reason

Thanks

c:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe

I can see regsvr32 but with no exe extension
I get an error when I click it

"No dll name specified..."

c:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe "c:\program files\internet explorer\ieproxy.dll"

right- just did that- got a message

Dllregister in c:\program files\internet explorer succeeded..

No- still goes immediately to the error message

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Ok- looking at it- what am I supposed to be looking for?

There's a long list of things saying Error etc

Under the Internet Explorer tab it says "There are no items to show in this view"

Does this mean anything?

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module urlmon.dll, version 6.0.2900.5969, fault address 0x0003e59f.

Fault bucket 1904808426.

actually

To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer, follow these steps:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll

Have you tried to uninstall IE? (Go the Add/Remove Programs screen thingy and choose the Add/Remove Windows Components on the left side. In theory removing and adding it again should sort out those dll probs.)
