The Wormholes, Oranges – The Joinery, 12th December

The Wormholes will reunite after 15 years apart to play the last ever gig in The Joinery on December 12th

The Joinery is extremely honoured to host the return of one Ireland’s seminal underground bands; the Wormholes, performing live with their original line-up for the first time in fifteen years.

The Wormholes (Dave Carroll, Anto Carroll, Graham Blackmore) formed at the dawn of the 1990s with some cobbled together gear, lots of youthful enthusiasm and a strong desire to wreck everyone’s heads with their particular brand of sonic terror. Within a decade the band had dissolved, but not before signing with Roadrunner Records and a major UK headline tour.

They left in their wake a slew of brilliant and confounding releases, from the lo-fi messing of ‘Chicks Dig Scars’ to the out-there, nigh-endless jamming of ‘Scorpio: the Album’. The experimental spirit of their later releases was continued on in the bands Memory Cells and European Sensoria Band, Dave, Anto and Fergus Cullen’s current weirdo jazz combo. The Joinery has had the privilege of working with European Sensoria Band consistently since 2008, and would consider them as resident band and good friends.

Like many other Irish bands of that era, the Wormholes’s legacy exists mainly in the memories of those who were around at the time and in the odd copy of an album or EP that pops up in the second hand sections of record shops around the world.

This will be the last public event at the Joinery, who consider it fitting to end their seven-year tenure with the rebirth of an iconic Dublin underground band. The gig coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the release of ‘Chicks Dig Scars’.

Support comes from Oranges, a new Dublin band featuring three people who have also been involved in the Irish underground music scene for many years. They are G. Duffy (Thread Pulls), Ed Kelly (ex-Cap Pas Cap) and Micí Durnin (Maximum Joy, B-Music).
