Jape, Villagers, Goodtime & Windings for Limerick Big Top Gigs

Villagers, Jape, Goodtime, Windings & Hello Moon are among the bands playing the Live At The Big Top gigs in Whelan’s this week.

Limerick City will come alive with the sound of music – and pretty damn good music at that. The city is preparing to host the ‘Live At The Big Top’ series of music events which will take place in the Milk Market and Dolan’s Warehouse from Wednesday September 21st to Saturday September 24th.

Live At The Big Top kicks off with an exclusive show by critically acclaimed Irish act, Villagers. Shortlisted for the Mercury and Choice Music Prizes in the past, earlier this year frontman Conor J. O’Brien scooped an Ivor Novello songwriting award for track “Becoming A Jackal”, receiving the 2011 prize for Best Song Musically and Lyrically – the most prestigious of the Ivors. Villagers perform their last Irish show of 2011 on Wednesday September 21st at the Milk Market with special guests Hello Moon and Windings, tickets are 23euro with doors at 6pm.

Next Thursday September 22nd, Arthur’s Day 2011 will rock the town with events in many pubs throughout the city and the main event taking place ‘Live At The Big Top’ featuring a host of top class acts including Calvin Harris, Irish musical legend Sharon Shannon, hugely popular up-and-coming Irish band Royseven, and another surprise act TBC – expected to be yet another big name star. Doors for Arthur’s Day Live At The Big Top open at 5pm.

On Friday evening, September 23rd, one of Ireland’s best loved musical acts rolls into town – The Stunning will perform a stellar show Live At The Big Top. Expect all the old favourites from their 1990 multi-platinum album Paradise in the Picturehouse such as Brewing Up A Storm, Romeo’s On Fire and Half Past Two, as well as the rest of the band’s rocking repertoire. Special guests on the night will be Hermitage Green and Eoin Coughlan. The Stunning perform on Friday September 23rd, tickets 23euro with doors at 6pm.

Finally, on Saturday September 24th, Irish electronic–rock act Jape will wind down the Big Top weekend with a huge show at Dolans Warehouse. Jape’s Richie Egan is releasing a new album entitled Ocean of Frequency this September (the follow-up to their Choice Music Prize-winning album ‘Ritual’) so expect some exclusive new tracks from the talented Dubliner. Special guests on the night is Goodtime. Jape perform on Saturday September 24th, tickets are 12euro with doors at 8pm.
