Ceol – Le Seachtain na Gaeilge

Delorentos, Heathers & Republic Of Loose are among the acts playing Vicar Street tomorrow night to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge & raise money for Barnardos Ireland.

Seachtain na Gaeilge presents a live concert in Vicar Street on the 16th of March as part of the Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations of 2011 in aid of Barnardos Ireland.

The concert will be packed full of top-rated acts singing their well known songs both in English and Irish. Acts including chart toppers Republic of Loose, Delorentos, Heathers, Fiach, The Flaws, Lumiere, Lir, Dublin Gospel Choir and Luan Parle will take to the stage alongside some surprise special guests. Tickets cost €20, a marginal price to pay for such headline acts, with every cent of the profits going to Barnardos. Seachtain na Gaeilge will be working hard with the St.Patrick’s day festival, Aiken Promotions and Radió Rí-Rá to fill the venue! The aim of this concert is to promote and celebrate the Irish language. Ceol will illustrate some of the outstanding talent we have in Ireland. The acts will be accompanied by a string section led by renowned conductor, Joe Csibi and the house band led by the very talented musician and producer Gavin Ralston.

The objective of the concert is to lift the musical spirits of all and with a line-up like this, it’s hard to pass up. With well known acts from Ireland’s music industry, such as Republic of Loose,who have sold out nationwide gigs across Ireland and who recently received an IMRO award for their acclaimed album ‘Bounce at the Devil’will play their funk-soul tunes to bring us into St.Patricks Day. Delorentos,who have graced the world stage will join the other acts, some of whom are well known further afield such as Fiach,who will play theMilwaukee Irish Festivalthis year. The Heatherswill be one of the main acts on the night, with their quirky voices and distinctive internationally recognised sound. It’s rare to see such a mix of talent from different genres coming together on one stage in an event such as this.

The Dublin Gospel Choirwill harmonise on stage to open the concert. This native choir have shared stages with world renowned musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and Chris De Burgh. They also sang to an audience of 82,000 people in Croke Park. Luan Parlewill also grace the stage at this year’s Ceol. She was presented with “Best Irish Female Artist” at the 2007 Meteor Awards. Her folk, country and acoustic style will wow the crowd in Vicar Street on the 16th. To continue with the line-up, Pauline Scanlon and Eilis Kennedy, the fresh sounding duo known as Lumiere, have also being confirmed for this all Irish act gig. The two singers are signed with record producer John Reynolds who has worked with industry giants such as Sinead O’ Connor, Andrea Corr and U2.

Indie-rock quartet The Flawswill join the above acts on the night. This Monaghan born band have played major gigs nationwide including Electric Picnicand also scored themselves an award for ‘Best Irish Band’at the 2008 Meteor Awards. Special guests on the night Lir will no doubt perform an energetic set. Lirwill join all the other outstanding acts on the night to make Ceol the best Seachtain na Gaeilge event to date.

Ceolis our biggest production for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2011 and promises to be a very memorable night for all who attend. These musicians are working together to help improve the lives of children who are in need of charities such as Barnados. With all proceeds going directly to Barnados, we hope to raise a significant amount that will make a difference to the children who need it most.
