And anyway, Karen O has mastered a certain image and made it look natural. She's got a mysterious quality about her, for sure, and it's probably the reason behind their success (in addition to having an amazing publicist). There are lots of bands that sound like them and are as good, but not all of them have the equivalent of Karen O's allure.

No, I just mean that for every band who 'makes' it, there are loads of other bands who never get out of the garage, who probably have the same potential, whether or not they have something special about them, something that sets them apart. Karen O's allure is unique, but so are lots of people. It's just that they got the sound right, and they got the image right.

I'm not a huge fan, I have to say, but I saw them a few years ago in a bar in NY, and they were good. Very good, but by no means the greatest thing ever. It's not because they were better than everyone else that they made it big, but because they knew how to get the right people on their side. And those people responded well, saw their potential, and worked with it.

i thought she was hot before i heard the cd. the hotness isn't what i'm talking about. the cd, their playing, the recording itself is just amazing. i am blown to bits by it. not every band can do that and i should know because.... oh right. well, i likes it. and that's all i know right now.

They were deadly in The Shelter in 2002 with Female Hercules.
It was packed.

We were standing at the edge of the stage and Karen smiled at me
then screamed some lyrics in my face, which kinda scared me, then she sprayed a can of beer over my girlfriend, which was funny.

Cool band.

And he is an amazing drummer, really sparse and I dunno, heavy.
