rented 3 films over the weekend...am starting to get concerned that my taste is up my own hole...i'm hoping that the opposite is true, that in fact other people also don't think much of the films that are generally regarded as 'cinematic masterpieces', 'original comedies' etc..

the 3 films below got pretty good reviews by people, newspapers, review shows, etc. and I was looking forward to seeing all three films...boy was I disappointed. I don't think I have seen a good, as in consistenty good film, in a long time.

Sideways - crap, boring, self-indulgent, moany...the whole wine thing was amusing at first, but wore thin after the 400th reference about Carbonic maceration ande how good the semillon grape really is. some funny bits but i don't get all the hype.

Enduring Love - just faded...the psycho guy had around 3 lines he kept on repeating...there was no momentum in the film. not very good.

I heart huckabees - i like the idea, but the psychobabble dialogue was incoherent and sounded like it came straight from a Dr. Phil self-help book. Maybe it worked for an American "i have 2 shrinks" audience but I didn't buy it...it was as if i was trying to be too clever for it's own boots or something and failed.

I've never seen these 3 films, but I'm determined to think they are bollocks if I ever do see them.

I was in a bit of a gang rape mood last night so watched a good chunk of season three of Oz. Not as good as season two but some nice character development and some excellent deaths.

Did you get to see Evan Seinfeld's dick?

I watched The Lost Battalion. Distinctly average.
Far far far too many times. Mind you, i hear he's done a few pornos with the missus (tera patrick), that would be interesting.

If you're into porn that is. Sickos.

All i have been watching for the last few days is Fawlty Towers on DVD. i am constantly astonished by how clever, witty and consistently hilarious it is. Fucking amazing stuff. all of it is gold.

just saw pailndromes
not particularly shocking (don't think that's the guys aim) - journo shit made it sound way more gruesome than it really was
sweet in parts
big grimm fairly tail vibe to it (thinkin last house on the left / the virgin spring)
kinda question the use of the handicapped people as the voice of the christian right a little...
anyway i dug it - liked it more than i rmeember liking 'storytelling'

Haha, I don't think it's all that great either...
Most people seem to think it's brilliant!

And what is the story with Martin Sorcsese constantly praising it?

Martin Scorsese's Top 10 film of the nineties....
10.) Malcom X
9.) Fargo
8.) Crash
7.) Bottle Rocket
6.) Breaking the Waves
5.) Bad Lieutenant
4.) Eyes Wide Shut
3.) A Borrowed Life
2.) The Thin Red Line
1.) Horse Thief (late 1980’s)"

Fawlty Towers is crap, overrated dodgy slapstick.

ah here, i would have to say its deadly. slapstick yeah, but done really well with clever intricit plots and some great lines. series one of "i'm alan partidge" and series one of "black books" and a lot of "father ted" followed its template for comedy, and they all did it brilliantly.

i've just watched an episode of Fawly Towers called "The Psychatrist" from series 2, and it was so fucking good, nearly pissed myself / burst my shat (delete as appropriate) laughing. fucking great, amazingly scripted, complex and well-conceived plots, and bloody hilarious. that and "The Germans" episode from the first series are two of the best pieces of TV ever, along with the "Drugs" episode of Brasseye, and the pentiulimate episode of "The Prisoner": Once Upon A Time. and thats the highest praise i can give. The wine that was meant for the pope but drunk by bill bailey and dylan moran in "Black Books" is up there as well as the pinnacle of marvelous entertainment for me.

aye, i'm a nerd

well, i'm in the middle of watching the "the kipper and the corpse" episode of Fawlty Towers, and if this isn't the funniest shit ever for being drunk and laughing so much kidneys fall out of me (eeeeeeh?), then i will most certainly be a fishermans housewife.
