Thumped Fantasy Footie 09/10 (4 Viewers)

4 days to go, can't wait. any thoughts on 4-4-2 vs. 3-4-3 or even 4-3-3?

5-4-1 all the way motherfrooger

defenders get 4 points for clean sheets
strikers get 4 points for scoring a goal

it is way easier to pick a defender who has a chance of keeping a clean sheet
than a striker who will score a goal in any particular weekend

two defenders at 5.5 are the price of one rooney

*Edit: just re-read Evil Bandit's post again there. That makes some sense alright. I think the top midfielders tend to get more points than the top defenders though (Vidic last year excluded).

they do, but at higher cost

5 defenders averaging 5 points a game would be achieveable with 35million or less

5 midfielders doing the same would be 40+ (in my opinion anyway)

that extra 5 million to spread on strikers would be dead handy

I wonder if Ancelotti will play Fat Frank as a more defensive midfielder this year? He got a shit load of points last year and given a free reign I predict he will do the same this year again..

he's played at the top of the diamond in every match so far

I see your logic. I think.

Thanks for that re Fat Lamps. I didn't know that.

also, (not trying to sound like a know-it all)
but have make sure you have a look at game week two yet?

from another board I'm on, I've noticed that every team posted so far has at least 3 (usually 4 or 5) players who are not playing in gameweek 2, so that's already hamstringing yerself to have to make changes, however is you manage it now, you can carry on that 'free' transfer till the next gameweek

here's my team
1: Cech Hull City (H)

2: Distin Fulham (H)
3: Evra Birmingham (H)
4: Upson Wolves (A)
5: Agger Tottenham (A)
6: Cole A Hull City (H)

7: Richardson Bolton (A)
8: Benayoun Tottenham (A)
9: Lucas Tottenham (A)
10: Lampard (C) Hull City (H)

11: Rooney Birmingham (H)

12: Foster Birmingham (H)
13: Ebanks-Blake West Ham (H)
14: Cattermole Aston Villa (A)
15: Di Santo Man City (H) (H)

p.s. distin and upson are gambles, if they haven't transferred by friday they'll be replaced

I've bought Lucas and Kuyt to compliment the obvious captain Lampard in my midfield, on the assumption that they are both pretty attacking players who will get a lot of game time.

There's a round of matches midweek in the first week that is disturbed by Champions League and Europa League (feel bad typing that) qualifiers. Only six games being played I think. Whats the point in buying a player who can only play two games instead of three at the start, eh?

corksongs, just noticed your team. A lot of similarities in mine!

The rule where half the profit you make on a transfer being taken away seems to be gone. Makes jiggery pokery with the team slightly less complicated.

Here's me team:

Howard

Bosingwa
Collins
Corluka
O'Shea

Gerrard
Lampard (c)
Anderson
Modric

Doyle
Anelka

Subs:
Hennessey
Zayatte
Edwards
Cresswell

looks good, but I'd be wary of a spurs defender.

you're missing three players in gameweek 2 straightaway too

I'm thinking Harry usually has a good defense. Then again, it is spuds.

I actually changed it around a fair bit after you said about game week 2. Shocked I still have three in there. Will fix it up later.

It's a good team but I recon Anderson and O'Shea will be rotated a lot and rarely last 90 minutes when they do start. That's the reason why I didn't go for any United midfielders.

here's my squad lads, open to comments suggestions etc. as this is me first time and i'm no football expert.

Schwarzer

Hangeland Carragher Lescott Bramble

Ireland Gerrard (C) Neville Malbranque

Anelka Robinho

subs: Sorensen Cousin Mendy Zayatte

If you pick players outside the following teams, they won't get any points from those players in respect of Gameweek 2. You could do a load of transfers after Gameweek 1, but it costs 4 (?) points per player. You get one free transfer per gamesweek. Please correct me if I'm wronk on that.

Sunderland V Chelsea 18 Aug 19:45
Wigan V Wolves 18 Aug 19:45
Birmingham V Portsmouth 19 Aug 19:45
Burnley V Man Utd 19 Aug 19:45
Hull City V Tottenham 19 Aug 19:45
Liverpool V Stoke City 19 Aug 20:00

So, Schwarzer, Hangeland, Lescott, Ireland, Neville and Robhino won't get you any points for GW 2.

Also, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have people from the same team in your goal keeper/back four set up as if they conceed one goal that's 12 points gone.
