Apparently Themselves (jel + doseone) are playing Whelans in May.
Sweet.

can't wait, especially after the subtle tour never happened last year, going to be amazing to see them themselves though!

That's funny. I had never heard of this person Jel before this morning when I downloaded a remix of his of a track off an album reviewed on Pitchfork. It's deadly.

He's awful handy on the auld MPC, is Jel

Looking forward to this!
'The No Music' was one of the best records Anticon put out I think.
Great live band too!
They did an awesome peel session back in the day in the corridor of BBC studios if I remember correctly.

Foggy Notions presents

THEMSELVES (Anticon)
Feat. Doseone & Jel

+ Sunken Foal

Whelan’s, May 3

Tickets €13.50 plus booking fee from WAV/City Discs/www.tickets.ie/Ticketmaster

Foggy Notions are delighted to present the Irish debut of this acclaimed avant-hip-hop duo from the Anticon/cLOUDDEAD/Subtle stable.

As hungry and art-hearted as ever, Doseone and Jel return with neck-wrecking beats, precision rapping, and a little righteous indignation. Their return to stage and song will be marked by two new full-length studio records and a battery of world-touring.

The first of the two albums is entitled theFREEhoudini - a mixtape meets posse album all produced by Dose and Jel, each beat meant to “glass slipper fit” its respective rapper or DJ. Featuring all-stars: Slug, Sole, Yoni Wolf (WHY?), Buck 65, Passage, DJ Baku, Alias, Aesop Rock, Mr. Dibbs, D-styles, Busdriver, Serengeti, and the Lionesque.

It marks a reuniting of all those artists Themselves have once shared closeness with in song. The result is a perpetually changing landscape of unadulterated rap, with the Themselves signature production sound and prose from today’s most venerable wordsmiths. It is a compassionate and elaborate spearhead to the comeback.

The mixtape will be FREE… for lover, loser, and leper alike. World Wide Web-wide, made available through several select websites in Spring 2009.

Crowns Down will be the fourth and hardest/hungriest full-length studio album by Themselves (Fall 2009) - no nonsense, no filler, simply a careful and vicious exhibition of the sampling ethics and rap tactics Dose and Jel have been mastering for the past decade. Crowns Down is their return to form and manifest of the record Themselves had always sought to set into song.

Live and in the flesh, Themselves return to their original incarnation, the holy number of the carnal rap act - two, the MC and the DJ. As Jel pounds and thumbs drums and sound from his MPC, Dose puts down some 5,000 words per set in a slew of styles, voices, and shades of honest. Themselves is a two man band, on a rampage of heady rap made from scratch. The rest is a soft hour of prose, bumps, and pantomime as the props, improv, and laughter surround themselves.

Sunken Foal is the work of Dunk Murphy from Ambulance. He produced the lush electronica LP Fallen Arches in 2008 and together with collaborator Rod Morris has developed a swish live performance set-up.
