Gig was great despite Sinead ruining my favourite song, as per usual. I need to see him some place other than Ireland so she doesn't show up.
He's supporting Elbow here in May. Should I bother hanging around for Elbow?
I also spotted Brendan O'Connor there. As well as, Aidan Gillen who was singing along.

I'm no fan but I caught them at EP a few years back and was surprised by just how great they were. I would say it would be worth it if you were going for John Grant already.
Aiden Gillen is contractually obliged to go to all gigs. Usually with his kids.
I don't mind her on the record but live she ruins it every time. I hate that over effected nonsense, which luckily is toned down in the studio. The Villagers dude was good though.

Elbow used to be interesting, the first album is great, but I'm not so fond of anything that came after. I'm happy they're successful though.
I once saw them in HQ on Abbey Street. My little brother was a huge fan but wasn't allowed in as he was u-18 (I thought he'd be ok with me) so after the show Guy Garvey rang him on my mobile (my brother was asleep in bed at the time as it was a school night) and spoke to him for a couple of minutes and promised if he came to the next show they'd make sure he got in. They also signed a poster for him.

Not an Elbow fan but that was sound of him!
I really like him but it still amazes how he can get away with lyrics a teenager would be embarrassed by.

They were deadly when they sounded like this. Basically them and Doves were interchangeable.

(you can probably blame a subbie for that) but shoehorning the cack-handed 'glacier/icebreaker' metaphor in was the final straw.
I wouldn't go that far. I thought Elbow were just really boring. Doves had some decent moments though.
And whenever I turned on Phantom in 2010 everything on it seemed to sound like these two songs.
Not sure if that's an endorsement.
That There Goes the Fear song is at least partly responsible for thousands of bands ending their set with everyone in the band all playing percussion together. It's rather embarrassing when both the support act and main act do it.
No one's going to mention that Elbow and Doves sound quite like Coldplay?
Well back in 2001 I dismissed Elbow as another Travis/Coldplay band I didn't need in my life so I never really listened to them. Hence my surprise at how good they were when I saw them.
Because both of them are better than Coldplay, none of us can stand coldplay and even mentioning coldplay should be a banning ... nay, hanging offence.
Well that's the whole nub of it there.
Doves are Coldplay for people that fucking hate Coldplay.
So are Green Day.
