We do this every year and it typically only serves to cause arguments and to remind us what gigs were actually on, as opposed to determining what the gig of the year was.
Anyway, I'll start. I reckon it was a semi-decent year for gigs. There wasn't the same volume of top-notch gigs, but thats ok so long as the ones that are on are decent.
For me some of the most notables were;
- Sufjan in the Olympia.
- Bill Callahan in the Academy
- Retarded Cop album lauch in the workmans (that was a lot of fun).
- Land Lovers album launch in Crawdaddy.
- Joanna Newsom in Marlay Park.
- Pulp at Electric Picnic
- Le Galaxie at Electric Picnic
- Tirrannieasaur at Electric Picnic
- Phosphorescent in the Workmans
- Bonny Prince Billy in Whelans.
and as I write that list, one year starts to blur into the next and I can tell different years apart and can't be sure if those gigs all happened this year, or if other gigs I'm thinking of happened this year or not.
Of those the ones I enjoyed most would be Joanna Newsom and Pulp.
Worst gig of the year for me was Morrissey in Vicar St.
