My friends have just been threatened with eviction by their landlord, he's given the four weeks notice but for entirely wanky reasons- one of them rang the environmental health inspectors because the flat is a bit stoneage. No proper heating, really damp, wallpaper peeling off, there were cockroaches (!) until not long ago... well, health inspectors told the landlord that he has to make a lot of repairs or face a big fine, now he wants rid of them because they're 'too much trouble'. They've been there for three years.. any advice? I think one of them is going to talk to threshold today..

Yeah, it's a bit of a dump alright, but the rooms are big... they've been trying to get him to fix this shit for ages and now he apparently has to. I've been urging one of them to move, over the last year, but she's very stubborn. It'd be nice for them to have the landlord by the short and curlys.. but it'll probably just end up being the other way round....

you heard wrong. a housemate here is here five years and we only got 7 weeks notice. have to move house tomorrow.

there are fuck all tenants rights in this country because so many politicians are renting out second homes and it might disrupt their monies if they were to put some laws / rules in place.

Donjo,I've said this before and I'll say it again....tell yer mates to find somewhere better..

...but as they're leaving,tell them to lash a load of grass seed all over the carpets and everywhere...give it a good watering...hey presto! a couple of weeks and theres an indoor garden for the landlord to relax in, in his dotage.....

On a barely related tangent- A friend of mine was living in Leeds for a bit, on the morning his mother went to visit him, as he was asleep, his housemate pasted the walls of his room with porn.
