I guess you're looking to set up a little home studio?

Those Behringer desks are awful.
Are you gonna be using a pc to record/sequence?
Do you already have a soundcard - if so what make/model?

hi aoboa
no plans for recording, just setting up a very small practice room for 3 of us to make noise in.

I have the smaller one of these budget yamaha mixers and I like it fine

also these Samson jobs are almost identical, but have nice monitor routing options (send different mixes abotu the place) which I kinda wish I'd went for now, a little bit...

these soundcrafts get good reviews too, Tape Op magazine raved about the smaller model of this range...

under 200 bills for a full P.A.

that's amazing, I'm sure the quality is suspect, but if you weren't moving it around too much... christ I remember rigging up old stereo systems for vocal pa's practicing in peoples garages, destroying the speakers, a;; you could hear was distortion, and once the dsrums came in you may as well have not bothered... young people today don't know their born... etc, etc, etc,

i would'nt say noise over sound quality. its just a very small room and i have a very small budget. can you use speakers with non powered mixers?

If you have a power amp or they are powered speakers, yes.

I'd be a little wary about those last two suggestions, first one looks good and handy, dunno how well the other two would compete against some "11" guitar amps ;-)

thanks mijokev
do you know of any affordable powered speakers that are good?

No. hehe.

You're better off sticking with either a powered desk or a power amp,db technologies do some kinda stacked speakers that are supposedly good but you're talkin 8/900 territory. Besides if its just for throwing some vocals through and makin a bit of noise with,a powered desk and unpowered speakers are fine....you can always ditch the desk later, get one with better pre's and a nice power amp.
