Space Camp with JOAKIM (TIGERSUSHI/DJ SET)
Saturday 23 June. Rogue, 64 Dame Street. Dublin 2
Space Camp presents the Irish debut of Joakim at Space Camp, Saturday 23 June.
A major figure in the French electronic music scene. and is the founder of the Label
Tigersushi. Multi talented and hard to pin down: part club music, part jazz, part electronic
experimentalism. He has released three audacious albums, Tigersushi (1999) Fantômes in
2003 & this years Monsters & Silly Songs.
Joakim has always been involved in music. Learning piano at the age of six, from master
concertist Abdel Rahman El Bacha. He later discoverd a passion for electronic sounds after
a school friend forgets a synthesizer at his house.
Those sounds bring him new creative possibilities, and after a few months of prolific work
and sending demos to Versatile, who bring out his album Tigersushi.
In 2001 he starts his own label sharing its name with his debut album, Tigersushi featuring
releases by K.I.M., Panico, Principles of Geometry, Volga Select, as well as the compilations
More God Dam Music (MGDM) & Kill the DJ (which was launched by Ivan Smagghe).
2003 is an important year for Joakim: his second album, Fantômes, is released and receives
praise from both the press and the dancefloor, especially with tracks such as Come Into My
Kitchen and Are You Vegetarian?
Today, four years after Fantômes, and a lot of time remixing some of the top
international artists (Tiga, Ivan Smagghe, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Tiefschwarz, Chateau Flight,
Fisherspooner, Max Berlin, Air, Annie to name a few), Joakim is back with his latest and most
acclaimed to date album; 'Monsters & Silly Songs' A fully realized piece of work that encompasses
a wide range of genres, from electro pop, techno to disco, indie, new wave, post-punk, piano solos
and various electronic distortions,
Joakim is an all encompassing talent and has his Beats In Space guest slot showed an innovative
and entertaining DJ, we expecting something special on the 23rd. Support on the night comes from
Space Camp's own innovative entertainer! Steve Manning.
