Isn't the up-down paradigm a little on the two-dimensional side?

Is listening to music not a little more complex than that?
Not if you're a simple man.

Actually... just a few tweaks and you have the opening gambit for a sex-help book:

Isn't the in-out paradigm a little on the two-dimensional side?

Is making love not a little more complex than that?

Split Enz - Six Months In A Leaky Boat. this must be the most exciting pop tune ever. just the beginning of the second verse where they band drops out for a second and the second verse starts in with that fantastic two part vocal harmony - "Aotearoa, rugged individual glisten like a pearl At the bottom of the world The tyrany of distance didn't stop the cavalier So why should it stop me? I'll conquer and stay free". makes me go all giddy

other up ones that i've been grooving on lately:
Led Zeppelin - The Crunge (far and away their best tune)
Mike Watt - Fireman Hurley
Terence Trent D'arby - Wishing Well
Gentle Giant - Cry For Everyone
Peter Hammill - Gog
Hound Dog Taylor - Comin Round The Mountain

someone mentioned Asleep by The Smiths as a downer. bizarrely enough, it's one of my favourite happy songs. i used to go out with someone a few years back and she'd sing it to me if i was sad to cheer me up

Back in the day of recording songs off the college radio station ( that I could barely get in) and/or MTV's 120 minutes, I would write down the lyrics of songs I liked. Being the moody teen I was I had the song asleep recording for an entire side of a tape. My mother found the lyrics written down in one of my notepads and thought it was a suicide note. Needless to say, there was a 'talk'. Ah, silly youth.
