not quite true, my dearest Gargoyle. i joined within a few weeks of that Fugazi gig in 1989, after poor oul' Niall first started on a long road of illness, which thankfully, he recovered from after a few years. the singer/guitarist, one "Rabbit", rang me one night and asked would i be interested in filling in for Niall for a gig on bass. i told him i'd never played bass before, he said that's ok, i'd plenty of time to learn as the gig was the following night! and thus began my woeful adventures in live music. we played an average of 3 gigs a week, sometimes 2 a night in different venues in dublin. it was all quite different then. mostly fairly crusty punk gigs with Paranoid Visions and the like. after a few months Shane joined on second guitar (he was later in Joan of Arse and is currently in The Sick Motherfuckers Song Club).

hightlights for me were playing the punk all-dayer's in Giro's in Belfast and the wonderful people we met there, including how i met you Gary, and the hearty treatment we always received. also playing with NoMeansNo at their first gig in ireland in the New Inn (now apartments), My Bloody Valentine in their first trip back to dublin since "making it big in england" in McGonagles on their Isn't Anything tour, and That Petrol Emotion at the, ahem, trinity ball.
