2 x Cat6, alarm cable and 2 x 6mm (squared) mains cables all ran this week for solar/inverter and future new heat pump/boiler (whatever)
Just have to put back down floor temporarily (replacing them in October) tomorrow and the lads will install our system in a fortnight

the real saving this time of year comes from grid shifting with the battery

"Saving" is probably the wrong word considering the upfront costs involved. ROI?

What Is grid shifting?

the recent storms tripped our inverter breaker and we didn't notice so it ran down the battery and now the solar people have to come out to restart the battery because it is stuck at 0% and not charging. They forgot to tell us (and loads of other customers of theirs) to watch out for it so they've a long list of callbacks to make these few
Weeks

The idea is that you run as much as possible using the stored power in the battery (which costs 25% of the daily rate) + solar (free), while also topping the battery up during the day with any excess solar production.

Battery tops itself up between 2am-4am (the green line). Battery state of charge is the red(purple? pink?) line.

You can also see the total consumption in the amber line/area - so the car charging between 2am-4am, and the washing machine kicking off at about 2:15am. The other spikes are the battery topping itself up at about 7am (don't know why it's doing this) then me defrosting the car just before 8am, (because the car is plugged in it uses mains power for this, not its own battery. Need to stop it doing that somehow.)

Grid consumption is the blue line/area which pretty much flatlines at 8am until the battery drains.

right now:

Thanks - I've not checked but i think a lot of days in UTM's 1.4kwh would be ample. He boils the kettle a few times, charges his 5v stuff and other than that it's broadband/tv/lights. The kettle is the only thing that sees anything over about 60w. .
