So What Are Ye Making Of The DEAF? (1 Viewer)

No she wasn't. I saw the whole thing sitting at the very front. She had no microphone just a theremin, filter and 2 sampler pedals. It was an exceptionally disciplined and focused performance; even staying in tune on theremin is difficult.

OK, maybe I saw someone else?
From my vantage point I'm pretty sure there was a mic in some lady's hand and she was wailing into it, now it is possible that I mistook her hand movements for someone holding a mic and the wailing sound could have been a theremin.
However my main point still stands, whatever it was I had to leave the room as it sounded like noise to me (personal opinion, not trying to bait anyone, blah balh etc.........)

Yeah, there were issues with the bouncers in the Storehouse alright (not allowed loiter in the halls being my favourite) but surely some dialogue between promoters and the Storehouse management would see the bouncers chill out a bit (I dont remember them being such hardasses for the Wonky thing I was at in there).

Anyhoo, away off down the country to some castle seeems to be the only way to enjoy this sort of event at the moment. Anything in this vein coming up?

I find it difficult to believe that the security in the storehouse were anything but gentle angels in a rose petal cocoon emitting whale music whenever they opened their delicate word holes.

Once they were so pretty and beautiful that the storehouse had to get their own security guards to escort me out so that the little bundles of tranquility didn't gently stroke the shit out of me for trying to unload my own gear from the stage.

I think i'm in love.

You're thinking of the last piece of Roger Doyle's set. It was then that a woman came on with a mic (not a theremin) and started wailing. Personally, I liked it, but I could definitely see why it wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

Pamelia Kurstin, the theremin player, was the last act in the basement on Saturday, and didn't make an appearence with Doyle.

I recall them being pretty bad at Wonky as well.

I think the problem is the Storehouse itself. I suspect there are basic safety regulations which put a severe restriction on how people can move between rooms and floors. But this is what makes it utterly unsuitable for a festival: first, the entire point of a festival is to be able to wander around as you like. And second, because punters are going to quite reasonably object to the restrictions on movement, any promoters are gonna have to hire the least-evolved bouncers in order to intimidate people into obeying these rules.

Personally, I'd also throw in the reason that the Storehouse is a crap venue--it's a sterile, vibeless tourist trap--but I seem to be in the minority with that opinion.

So as unsuitable as Filmbase was as a venue (and I agree the sound bleed was a huge problem throughout), I still preferred it to the Storehouse by a long shot. At least you could move around at will.

i remember a pretty gorey situation at the storehouse. someone fell over a railing and down onto the escalators and cracked their head open? i only know about it cos i was messing near the railings shortly after and got gave out to by the bouncers. blood on the floor etc i imagine it might have had a knock on effect on insurance etc
can't remember tho if it was at deaf or wonky, or the pez death match thing as part of the fringe festival a couple of year ago.

I wasn't around at it myself at the time, but a fair few of my mates reference that Storehouse gig as one of the best they've been at.
