There's a programme about the making of the Beach Boys' Smile album tonight at 11.35 on BBC 1.

For those of you who also like my current fave album of all time.

this was totally amazing. it really got me thinking again about all the crazy plans i had for music and getting down to actually recording all the stuff i've made crappy demos of over the years... i reckon coming close to insanity looks pretty fun

Missed the start but I really enjoyed what I did see. That first vocal rehersal made for uncomfortable viewing though, everyone being really up for it apart from the man himself, just sitting in the corner with a confused look on his face.

Loved the album when I first heard it... Brought back the live experiance for me... really really deadly...
But I recently dug out the box set, good vibrations and first played the new smile songs, then played the origional recordings...
There is no comparison...
As amazing an achievment the Smile album is and not matter how much I admire its brilliance, it is not a patch on the album that should have been finished all those years ago... the survivings songs from that era prove that...

(is my spelling getting worse?)

besides,Pet Sounds urinates all over it

Yep, i agree.
But if it helped Brian Wilson slay his demons by 'finishing' Smile 38 yrs later then thats an honourable thing imho.
