Recommend me some Jazz (2 Viewers)

On the subject of Miles On the Corner is one of my all time favourite albums
I only got it relatively recently; couldn't really figure it out on first listens, there's so much going on. I must read up on it. Still listening though!

I *think* that it's mostly tape loops. Prefer it to Bitches Brew which I suppose is the generally considered highlight of that period of his work

I haven't listened to BB in years, but I do like On The Corner. I read that the music was cut from hours of studio jams and edited to the drums/beats.

The first track on Big Fun is the highlight of the his electric period for me. Im not mad about that period generally but I suppose it was worth it for these few minutes

should say, though, that asking for jazz recommendations is like asking for e.g. rock recommendations - do you want classic, indie, metal, country, punk, prog?

@Unknown Convict
"asking for jazz recommendations is like asking for e.g. rock recommendations - do you want classic, indie, metal, country, punk, prog"?

I know, I'm not familiar enough with the various style of Jazz to know what I like, in the same way I'd be with other genres.
I'm learning by listening. As a general rule I love Indie, Rock, Folk and Country, if that helps!!

arguably, jazz is more diverse now than at any time but most people tend to focus their recommendations on dead black american men c.1957='73. there are huge european jazz scenes that owe varying degrees to u.s. jazz e,g, hungarian, balkan, swedish, u.k., italian... not to mention latin, african, japanese.

then there's vocal/instrumental, big band/small group/solo, tred/bop/post-bop/free, etc.

so here's a few you might like that haven't been mentioned:

Ah shite, you just made me remember that I like Tomasz Stanko and that I wanted to see him play here in April, but I only just remembered that it was on.

I have inadvertently got some Cleo Lane in my collection through her collaborations with John Williams

But I always think of Ronnie Barker
