ask here and thumped will hopefully answer.

my question:

how do barnacles get stuck to whales? they're (whales) constantly moving, right?

Barnacles start as plankton-like larvae, floating wherever the tides take them. When they find a suitable place to embed themselves (like a whale) they stick there with the aid of a glue-like secretion.
Only then do they develop into the hard-shelled yokes that we think of as barnacles.

why do shopkeepers/staff always hand you the change with the coins on top of the notes, so that the buggers slide off the notes and all over the shop.

surely it would be better to put the coins in ones hand, and rest the notes on top, allowing all the change to be conveniently collected.

what is the average number of thank yous submitted by both parties during a simple transaction like buying a pint of beer?
