Nah I still use my old GH2 guitar, haven't bought a single RB peripheral.

However if you can get to a zavvi I reckon you could pick up the band in a box for 70 quid at the minute.

A lot of games require a couple of gigs install and theres a load of games/demos worth downloading so you could go through 40gb very easily.

250 gb drives are only 50 quid or so on komplett.

Can I just use an external usb drive? I've plenty of them about. Or will I need to install one internally?

Considering a 360 too but with a PS3 i'll be able to borrow a lot more games off friends. Not much interest in Online functionality either.

I'm new to all this and am thinking of getting a PS3 80GB from amazon for about €290 new - is that good? It's €399 in Smyth's. Is the 80GB console the one to get? I want to play gran turismo, but it seems that PS3 has only Gran Turismo 5 Prologue which is some sort of demo version of the forthcoming GT5 - would that be shit then?

Any other advice for me on specs to go for/avoid- I'm upgrading from a Spectrum ZX. If i get the console will I get the joystick and a pair of dice as well?

Unless you're interested in blu-ray, get a 360.

Lefty would be the driving games expert, but Forza 2 is to the xbox what GT is to PS. You also have PGR4 which is more arcadey but also 360 exclusive.

Then you have the choice of all the multi-platform games obviously.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue kinda is the ultimate in car porn but it isn't nearly as good an overall package as Forza 2. If you're a car nut you could happily just play Forza 2 and nothing else. Its widely regarded as the best driving game made to date.

The 360 controller is also far better for driving games.

You won't go wrong with a 60gb 360 + Forza 2

The advantages in going with a ps3 would be that you can use any of the 3rd party steering wheels which are far better than the official xbox one.

Also the replays and graphics in Gran Turismo are better than anything else out there at the moment. It also has a Top Gear tv channel in the game.
