Hey,

i'm looking for a reliable way to back up photos when travelling.
More than likely I won't have any access to a computer or internet connection
for 7 weeks. People keep telling me to burn stuff onto discs and post home
but that won't be possible. I might have some video too.

I was just gonna use an 160gb ipod but some people reckoned that wouldn't be enough.
Someone else suggested this http://www.digitalfoci.com/ the photosafe thing on there looks good and its 500gb.

basically do you think 160gb is enough and would there be any problem storing it on an ipod
without worrying about it compressing it or doing weird stuff.
What do you use if you're not shooting film that is?

Id go with the photosafe thingy, it looks fairly simple and you wont spend our time hanging around in internet cafes.
Also, from experience ive stopped plugging devices into PC,s in Internet cafes, its like unprotected sex really.. you really dont know what you will get.

Is 160GB enough? That depends if you are shooting RAW of JPEG? Personally i dont think RAW is worth it if heading on a long trip, lots of pictures= shitloads of memory.

Rough Estimate:
Average RAW file 20MB = 50 RAW files/Gigabyte
160GB= 8000 shots (over 7 Weeks) that should be lots.
