that's bollocks if it's a cathode biased amp then it's essentially self basing and you just pop those bad-boys in and away ya go!
you can't guarantee valves anyway,like I said they're akin to light-bulbs,these things just go sometimes

I believe it's more to do with chancers blaming his workmanship,when they've bought poor quality valves. It'sfair enough. He fitted his own valves for me once,they went right away,he apologised and replaced them again with no extra charge.
