..whats all the knob twidlling and mouse work about then?? people go to see bands all the time(like geetar bands) and they never change the way they play songs? nobody gets too excited. Each to ther own and all but I guess a whole lot of people would disagree..

seriousyl, if you can't see the difference between live band and "live" laptop shit...i know it's all just a means to an end but the odds on the laptop route being in any way visually interesting are petty slim
i wish all these stupid laptops would just stay in dudes bedrooms downloading porn on adsl

yeah, it's called a cd player... ;) formika gave me a cd with stuff he did around a year ago... i saw him playing live twice since that and the songs never change... the only person i've seen doing complete live reworking of electronic stuff is max tundra... that version he did of MBGATE at mor was fucking unbelieveable... but it was still composed at home in his bedroom... i just think it's kinda silly...

theres the rub. even if the "live" version is completely different to the origional does that bother you? i feel that a totally different version done for a "live set" (but still just played off dat or as an mp3) is just as valid as someone fucking about with the computer on stage and trying to re-do a track "live". the work has gone in, why shouldn't it be appreciated? i'd rather hear a fucking amazing mp3 set than listen to an hour of screw-ups just because someone felt they had to do everything "live".

..oh yeah I see the difference..I'm just not that bothered by it.I think most bands that play around dublin are visualy uninteresting too is all..shoe gazing and what not.I dont really go to see musicians play for the visualls anyway(I hear U.2 are great at that sort of thing) I guess thats why a lot of laptop guys combine their work with visual artists..thats nicer to look at then four guys with their backs to the audience..:)

no, me too, i totally agree with you... i'd appreciate hearing what someone put actual time into and thought about that someone just pricking around ( like those bands lizzie's is in... now now, don't mind me :p ) i know that essentially, max tundra was just playing something he'd thought about, composed and sequenced before he actually played it but it was much better than listening to him adjusting the voulme of the toms or something in the original mix of the song... i'm big into seeing laptop guys stroling across dancefloors and handing the dj white label 12"s of their new cut and seeing the crowd go apeshit... :)

Hi
I can see what people are saying about laptops ect.
My feeling is if youre not actually doing anything, dont pretend to.
Same goes for DJ's.
Anyway I didnt really want to start this whole debate (but I knew it would)
Just wanted to know where to start really.
Thanks to anyone who helped out.

The goone re: the "night in project", who do I contact, or is
there a website.
And das funkinstein...yep I do have a demo..would you like to touch it?

Cheers.

..excuse me..its only the one band I prick around with.

If the sounds are interesting enough I dont care if its just some
nerd-ah on a laptop. or a desktop for that matter. I mean the only good thing about watching most bands play live is the drummer. so your not missing out on too much.

Here's me playing live:
