Rafa Benitez has been hit by news full-back Alvaro Arbeloa will be out for two to three weeks with an abdominal problem. The Liverpool boss will also be without Andriy Voronin for the weekend's clash with Havant and Waterlooville due to an ankle injury sustained in training on Wednesday.

FINNAN WILL HAVE TO PLAY NOW! .|..|

IS BEING WITHOUT VORONIN A PROBLEM? SUR HAVENT WE DONE GRAND WITHOUT HIM FOR SEASONS!

See, you keep saying that without mooting a single viable alternative. There ain't many.

And don't say mourinho. He did very well with the team he inherited, proceeded to almost single handedly inflate the value of every footballer ever by ten million and ran as soon as it got a quarter as awkward as rofl's situation.

We get another geezer in and we can forget about anything for another 2 - 3 years while he builds his own team. I think benny's a bit of a gonk and stupidly stubborn to boot, but i'd still throw a kitty and another year at him.

hes a fuicking arsehole
the most important things a manager can do as far as i can see are
a/ buy good players and sell shit ones for the lowers / highest prices possibe
b/ pick the right team
c/ change the team / tactics if b isnt working
d/ coach the team (or get a good coach to do it)

a/ i'll give rafa a c+ more crap players bought than good
b/ f never picks the right team ever
c/ d- never really does this properly either
d/ havent a clue but i dont think he does much of this
and since he fell out with pako we look to have gone backwards

theres defo another man mangement element to mangers and
I know fuck all about and never will so i cant really comment on it

wanker he is

any fucking manager would do better
i'd take jol , mourihno , mcleish , del bosque in a flash ahead of him
id pretty much take anyone - coppell is supposed to want out of reading
id even take a scum cunt like him , i'd even give whelan or aldo a crack
of the whip ahead of him - maybe another scot is needed - i dont
follow scottish football but if I was being paid to scout a manager i'd
be looking high and low anyone to rid of that fucking flabby fraud
double chin hidin beardy gonk fuckwit coont

as much as i hate mourihno he did a great job
he wasnt beaten in four years in a home league game
the money was provided and he spent it
it was an abramovic problem , everyone said he couldnt buy the league
and he won two in a row , he got them to the semis of the champs league twice , they were nobodys before he got there , he did an amazing job at porto too (i know benitez did well in spain but that was years ago and hes only manged fourth and fifth places for liverpool)

this will be the fourth time this has happened
what do you think will happen next season ?
do you think he'll sell load of our shite and buy in amazing players
start picking the right team and making the right calls in games all of
a sudden - i dont , couldnt see us winning the league in the next four
years under benitez he cant be given that sort of time

All salient points I can totally get with. It's glaring.

What is this, St. James Park? Aldo?? Whelan?? Jol is just as big a gamble as letting benny have another year. Del bosque would be interesting in terms of the amount of spanish already there, but he did get the boot from fucking Besiktas. Mourinho did do very well but the money supplied was essentially whatever he wanted, he got. Him and Del boy are the only two I could get with there. Benny wouldn't have gone for Kuyt et al if the money was there for world class players. Every season he has been hamstrung by penny pinching, so the comparison is an unfair one, though mourinho at least has an adaptability within a dour tactical mind.

Fuck, I don't know, I think you're probably right about benny's inability to put toghether a premiership winning squad, to fucking just drop the deadwood when they clearly aren't worth a fuck and to create a playing atmosphere where players can string four passes together and aren't scared shitless of actually playing against manure and the arse.

I just don't want an arbitrary replacement that's going to get us nowhere just as fast...

I think the big question is whether benitez was given a budget or whether the transfer deals were approved individually. You can see from the other thread that he has spent a lot. But its whether he was forced to go to the board with each transfer? If he was told you have 20 million to spend and used that to buy gonzalez and kuyt instead of one decent player etc

I’m not a football fan but I’ve certainly done my research! Amazing.

Stephen will like to see Liverpool winning a match with Manchester United. Seeing that Stephen is such a football fan, I wanted to be sure I was accurate with the player’s jersey. I thought what would be fun will be a cake that depicts Stephen Thomas scoring the goal for Liverpool FC, kicking a ball past Edwin Van Der Sar from Man Utd. I’m not a football fan but I’ve certainly done my research!

I took this from the This.Is.Anfield forum, makes for interesting reading;

I’ve read a lot in the press, and on fan forums, about the Hicks' financial dealings and our club's financial situation. The latest being the current attempt by Hicks and Gillett to place the debt they incurred in buying the Club on the Club’s books - something they promised not to do. I think we are all rightly appalled at this deception. I suspect, however, that these stories may only be the tip of the iceberg. One thing I want to know is what has happened to the money Liverpool FC earned last year? Has it been taken out of the Club by Hicks and Gillette?

When Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 the Club’s pre-tax profits were reported as £25m (source: Deloitte Review of Football Finance). Profits for the 2006/7 season two years later should have been even better with the Premier League’s new £625m a year deal for overseas TV rights, double that of the previous year, and yet another run to the final of the Champions League. I've seen a number of quotes suggesting that last years pre-tax profits were about £30m. Trying to decipher the Club’s finances is quite difficult now that it’s in private hands. However, what we do know from various widely quoted media reports, assuming they are accurate, is as follows:

1) Hicks and Gillette took out a loan of approximately £220m to purchase the Club. This covered the cost of buying out the existing shareholders together with the clubs then debt of £40m and an amount to allow work to start on the new stadium.
2) Over the summer, the Club’s net spend in the transfer market was between £16m and £25m. This information came from Rafa himself - during an interview with the spanish media Rafa said that Liverpool had spent something over £40m on new players and taken in a shade over £26m on the sale of players.
3) Hicks and Gillette also took out further loans to cover the purchase of Torres and Babel (approximately £20 and £13m).
4) The owners have not made any interest payments on the various loans taken out. Instead they have allowed the interest to ‘roll up’ increasing the amount that they now need to repay.

So what has happened to the pre-tax profit earned during the 2006/7 season? It certainly wasn’t spent on players. The total of loans taken out for Torres and Babel (at least £33m) actually exceeds the total net spend by at least £8m. It seems to me that well over £25m, possibly a lot more, has simply vanished.

So, as well as spending non of their own money on buying the Club, providing no new funds, other than debt, for transfers and now attempting to burden the club with the debt they used to buy the Club last year (Glazer style), have Hicks and Gillett actually plundered Liverpool’s profits to line their own already gilded pockets?

The one thing that gave me hope if theydo stay is that they would have to pump some money in to make a profit and sucess of their Liverpool business venture. However if there is any truth in the above all they have to do is filter off the profits for a few years till we start losing money then pull out and leave the burden of the loan they used to buy the club on us  Can it be that easy?

There's also a load a stuff on there about how Hicks was part of a group that bought Corinthians and Cruzeiro in Brazil and promised new stadium, players etc. and then left them nearly in ruin when he pulled out after a few years. I know Brazil is a different kettle of fish than the English Prem but it doesn't make for good reading

hicks : "people are worried that i might take money away from the dallas rangers to go to liverpool, thats just the reverse. liverpools gonna throw off lots extra money i could use for the rangers"

sound. what a cunt.

Well looks like they've got their loan of £350m and have saddled the club with £105m of the debt. That breaks down as £60m to get the stadium started and £45m to run the club which is about the same figure as when Moores was in charge. Doesn't sound too bad when put like that but i'm still far from happy with it. Hopefully £17m of that 45 is for Masch at least

yeah, Guardian article today seems to say similar. Seems reasonable to suspect the two yanks will now move to quell fan unrest with a few sops. Mascherano first, then maybe give Benny some scrilla.

It's really unnerving how Kia Joorabchian is described as Mascherano's "Owner".

Yep.
