I'd say he was. His work was and is deep, involving and far reaching in scope, ambition and thought. There was also a lot of it, some was better than others.

Depends on your definition of genius of course.

I think maybe the Neil Gaiman book was the last thing I read by him.

I kind of 'got it' and was ready for different things.
 
You gave it a decent run, a few of the early ones are fairly ropey imho, but he got way, way better.

There's a whole load I haven't read myself, I'm slowly catching up on them.
