My girlfriend of nearly 10 years broke up with me recently.

Meeting people is awful.
Although she met someone around a week after breaking up with me (that's not suspicious), so maybe there's hope

The alternative seem to me to be a lifetime of constant negotiation and compromise, with some nagging thrown in. Oh, and the dreaded 'working' at a relationship.
