let's say that tomorrow i invent a car engine which runs on water. are you saying the main beneficiary of my colossal profits - essentially the sole beneficiary - should be the government?

I think this way of viewing the world is a big part of The Problem

If you invented a car engine that ran on water tomorrow, the outcome would be colossal profits for you which would mean that not only would you or your descendents ever need to work again, but you'd suddenly have quite a bit of political power

I don't think that's a good way of running things. It'd be far better if you got enough money to live on comfortably for the rest of your life, and the engine was open-sourced so everyone could make them

I can't see how to get there from here though
