LAZYBIRD 5th BIRDDAY
Sunday, 8.00 'til closing
International Bar (upstairs), Wicklow Street, Dublin 2
______________________________________________________

Happy birthday to us! This weekend, Lazybird is 5 years old, and we're
going to celebrate it in grand style by bringing back several friends
who've helped us make it this far...

We're really happy to welcome CHRIS CORSANO back for his fourth appearance.
Chris' two visits as a duo with Paul Flaherty and one as a trio with Paul
and Matt Heyner are three of the best gigs we've ever seen here, so we're
really excited to have him make his solo Lazybird debut.

We could go on gushing, but let's let others do it instead:

===============================================================

New Jersey drummer Chris Corsano has gained a well-earned reputation as one
of the best drummers around. Equally at home with intense kinetic
explosions of energy and concentrated near-silence, he effortlessly flows
from one idea to the next, always sympatico with his fellow musicians.

He has recorded and gigged with Paul Flaherty, Wally Shoup, Thurston Moore,
Kim Gordon, Jim O'Rourke, Matt Heyner, Daniel Carter, Sunburned Hand of the
Man, Six Organs of Admittance, MV&EE, Dredd Foole, Vampire Belt, Jessica
Rylans, Tony Conrad, Matt Heyner, Nels Cline, Carlos Giffoni, Steve
Baczkowski, Greg Kelly, Tim Barnes, Steve Swell, Solar Fire, Christina
Carter and Heather Murray.

"...deadly drum explosions...swatting his kit as if it were covered in
giant ants, with every component used to full effect - a tighly
orchestrated beating of skins and rims resounding over the ensuing flow of
inventive exploration." - Edwin Pouncey (The Wire)

"Corsano is one of the most energetic players out there, relentless yet
sensitive to what is going on around him - He rumbles and tumbles on the
toms, rides the cymbal down to Hell, and is not shy of stepping down
whenever the mood demands." - Francois Couture (All Music Guide)

"Lately, it's become nearly impossible to escape tales of Corsano's
multi-limbed approach to his kit, his willingness to explore the sonic
possibilities hidden in every surface of his chosen instrument." - Chad
Oliveiri (Rochester's City Paper)

"For his part, Corsano is one of the most sensitive drummers I have ever
heard, sensitivity of course not to be confused with restraint. He knows
exactly when to play where, and that includes moments where the real
necessity is to conjure up the sound of an approaching militia." - Dave
Morris (Dusted Magazine)

"Corsano is one of the best drummers of his generation." - Byron Coley
(Arthur Magazine)

"Chris Corsano is one of the most immensely talented drummers to have
emerged from the recent past. Those who have witnessed the giganticism of
his formal leaps in the jaws of post-avant-garde power surging, have been
left slack w/ the wonder & hilarity of it all." - Byron Coley again (Forced
Exposure)

"Drummer Chris Corsano, a young free player who already looks like becoming
the most significant and syntactically advanced percussionist to come out
of the free rock/jazz nexus. His playing is so exuberant and explosively
alive that it transcends any kind of responsive playing, inhabiting instead
a sublime zone where pure energy spontaneously gives birth to form." -
David Keenan (Scottish Sunday Herald)

"Corsano saddles up his drum kit and gallops off in what seems a hundred
directions, yet the forward propulsion magnetically draws the pulsating
debris back from the cosmos into orbit, keeping the rhythmic thrusting in a
tangible revolution. Corsano updates the multi-directional freedom of
Rashied Ali and deftly shudders about the drums with jaw-dropping
skillfulness, coaxing a staggering array of rhythms and sounds from his
traps. Laced through it all is an undeniable display of raw emotion laid
out like a sacrificial lamb, offered to the gods to save us all." -
Chris Scofield (Fake Jazz)

"For those of you not privy, Chris Corsano is a fucking dynamo at the
drums. He drums from the heart, there is no doubt about that. I've never
seen anyone rock a roll of scotch tape before. He does it. Next time you
see him ask him to deflower your drumset. He makes tidal waves happen." -
Adam Richards (Dusted Magazine)

========================================================================

Also making a return visit to the 'Bird are SEAN OG (sax) and BRYAN O'CONNELL (drums).
Via their various projects (United Bible Studies, Papercop, Schroedersound,
and many more), they've graced our stage many a time, and we're glad to
have them back. This time, they'll be performing as Ofcourseican Trio with dancer Eva.

And as if that weren't enough, Lazybird cofounders FERG and MONTY will be DJing some of their favourite tunes on the night as
well. Expect the unexpected.

======================================================================

And there's more: Chris will be sticking around in Dublin for a couple
days, and he'll be doing a drums-and-piano duo set with PAUL SMYTH on
Monday evening in the Goethe Institute. It starts at 6:30 and will be 10
euro in, or 5 euro if you bring along one of the concessions we'll be
handing out during the club on Sunday.

===========================================================

So come on down to the party, our last Lazybird of 2005. A mere 10 euro
gets you in for the night. Hope to see you there.

Thanks,
~lazybird~

And, as usual, our radio show Radio-Inactivity will be streaming out to the
world from 6pm to 7:30pm this Sunday on http://www.powerfm.org. The
selecta this week will be Paul.

that was deadly.

that was also the last lazybird of the year.
deadly!

Aye, the show in the Goethe was swell. Symth and Corsano are intending to release it as a record. They got their likenesses immortalised by a bad portrait artist for a tenner in the pub last night and they'll be using that as the artwork. I should mention at this point what a nice boy that Chris Corsano is, on top of being a crazy talented dude. Cheers to all at Lazybird for bringing him over.
