ISRC codes (1 Viewer)

PPI assign the codes in Ireland.

I've just gone through this with the PPL who cover us up here in Belfast.
I believe having the ME embed the codes on the track/disk is the preferred method, thought it's not an area
I'm fully knowledgeable with.

I'm sure the site has all the details you need.

yeah that's them all right. Contact them and they'll supply you with a code and explain how they work. Basically the last few digits of the code will in end in something like- 0001, this is for the first track on the album/ep/single, then every subsequent track code is +1 from there.

If you're doing a cd release the ME should put these on the pmcd, some online distribution systems (itunes and the like) require you enter the codes when uploading also.
Or if you're just sending files to a cd pressing plant, then you can just send them the codes with all your info.

you can tag mp3's & flac's etc. with the codes also:

what if our release doesnt have a record label? it asks for it.

  • Contact Name
  • Record Company/Label
  • Address
  • Phone
  • Email
  • Artist Name

also, where does one get a barcode for releasing something? will i have to register a band name as a business name or what does one do?

Think of a name for "your" label and go with that.

I don't think barcodes are that important as most places will have their own if they use them at all. However I'm pretty sure the distribution companies want them if you're going that route. We got one for the RC album but I've no idea who/where it were from now though.

maybe i will, maybe i will.

any info on getting a barcode?

If you need a barcode for something you can use this:

Use GS1 Databar expanded.

It's just for shop stock tracking purposes, you could use a barcode off your cereal box.

As far as the isrc codes, label name etc. they just need a reference to form a new set of codes, it doesn't matter to them what the name is.... as long as you don't put something like Universal Ireland or Sony records etc.
