i agree that doherty is shite, but ireland play better with a big striker. he's the best we have for the moment, so we'll have to make do. it's a very sensible line-up, but i'd like to see thornton called up to the senior squad.

all he can do is head the ball and run offside
most big men learn to link up well but this is bayond his capabilities

he may have scored against shite teams qualifyin
but whose to say clinton or connelly wouldnt have scored
if they were playin

i honestly belive if all three played a thousand minutes along side robbie
he would score the least goals
and run off side all the time

thornton will come thru in the next couple of years
hes with the perfect club in sunderland with mccarthy as manager

to play kilbane ahead of damo on the left when mccarthy got the sack
but low and behold there was someone stupid enough kerr

if i think back to the last couple of home games where damo was on the left
one was denmark where he gave some poor cunt a blackman premiership
style roasting all by himself

Doherty was absolutely awful last night. clumsy, little to no ball control, didn't even win that much in the air. in the other games i've seen him play - andorra (home and away) , russia away, georgia (home) - his link-up play was decent enough. who partners robbie keane? it's starting to look like a problem position.

I think that's the reason kerr and mccarthy end up playing kilbane on the left and duff up front - there are no decent strikers to play with robbie keane. kilbane had a couple of storming performances since kerr took over, so it was hard to drop him.

Other strikers?

Morrison - getting no first team football, poor first touch, doesn't look as confident as he was in his crystal palace days.

Connoly - has had loads of chances to prove himself, has played poorly in most of his competitive starts. Lack of height a problem when he plays with someone like keane.

Morrison and connoly are better footballers than doherty, but a tall target man suits the team better. i don't know who i'd start with, none of them are any good!

i understand thats why they do that but hes more effective on the wing
he's up there with the best wingers in the world
(testament to this will be how good he is in the new Pro evol. soccer on playstation 2 next season ,although they got him wrong this season after world cup 2002)

i think connelly would be more effective with someone like reid
slipping balls thru'
plus hes a natural goalscorer and clint and doc arent
i never listen to that bullshit about two strikers bein too similar shit
unless both are crap
im not implying you were gonna say that
sure robbie comes deep alot anyway and connelly plays off the shoulder


reid gives us much needed creativity
even kilbane could do a job in centre midfield
(drop a brown trout right in the middle of the centrecircle)

what about miller tho'
i already think hes a better player than who you've mentioned in midfield
hes gaining expierience rapidly in champions league
hes better almost every month
some engine

we need a new striker indeed
we should try and poach an englishman
