Hi there,

ie-indie;
Pronunciation: 'I 'E 'in-dE
Function: mailing list
Date: 2001
: ie-indie is a mailing list for Irish Indie kids to play in.

This is a short note to publicise the existence of ie-indie, a
moderated mailing list created with the intention of it being a decent
discussion list revolving around music of the indie or alternative nature.
This idea was thrown at the ie-dance mailing list, and seemed to go down
reasonably well, hence the groups formation.

What's on topic here? Well, that'll be sorted out over time, but here's a
quick shortlist to give you an idea of what's what.

Frank Zappa - On topic
Rollerskate Skinny - On topic
Boards of Canada - On topic
Take That - *OFF TOPIC*
What I'm listening to this week - On topic
What Leagues was wearing this week on No Disco - On topic
Bon Jovi - *OFF TOPIC*
The Boo Radleys - On topic
Your dog's new collar - *OFF TOPIC*
The Jimmy Cake's excellent video on No Disco - On topic
Why The White Stripes are so much better than The Strokes - On topic
Libertarianism - *OFF TOPIC*
Upcoming Gigs - On topic
Why Dazed was the best club ever - On topic
Ibiza vs. Ayia Napa - Possibly, though ie-dance'd be the natural place for it.
Gig reviews - On topic
Album reviews - On topic
Who was better in The Olypmia, Cornelius or The Flaming Lips - On topic

Hopefully that's not very off-putting and ye get what I'm getting at.

Hey Pete, why aren't we allowed post about Rollerskate Skinny and Heavenly here?

Oh yes... because they were shit.

Ah, Pete. I was only buzzin' off yer head, bud.

Seriously though, I don't think talk of Belle And Sebastian b-sides would go down well here. ;)

And I don't like web discussion forums. Sorry. :(

Shoulder Voices - best irish album ever :)

When I was talking and mailing people about the list, I was asked if I could moderate it. People don't like shite in their mailboxes.

I'm refusing to let mails that have the content of the likes of "Haha, spas" onto the list. Sorry. If enough people are actually upset by the setup and keep wrecking my head, I'll change it. :)

But at the moment, I've had more people asking for moderation than people comparing me to a facist, ridiculing their argument in the meantime.

Ever hear of Godwins law?

I know. But people want to be on a mailing list, and read it there. I've already been moaning about web interfaces on ie-dance which miffed Pete off no end. :)

ah yeah sound buzz its your thing you can do whatever you like.. just my opinion thats all...

its a cool idea for a mailing list though... its a little sluggish is all right now..

Horse Drawn Wishes by The Skinny is one of my fave albums.

Whatever happened to them?? serious like.

stephen murray of the skinny has just released an album with his band Empire. saw it in road during the week but i havent had a chance to listen to any of their stuff yet..

gawd the skinny were the biz... all those rememories...

Oh, is that who he is? I was in the Dice Bar when they were launching the CD so I bought a copy. Dodgy stuff, very dodgy. Uninspired, sub-Fourtet, sampled meanderings.

I saw Rollerskate Skinny supporting Mercury Rev in the Rock Garden many years ago. What a gig. Both bands were explosive. At one point during the Skinny gig, I saw a bunch of heads looking down at the ground near the front of the stage. The "looking down" moved closer to me like a wave, so I looked down too, expecting to see a dog that had strayed in. Instead it was David Baker from Mercury Rev crawling along the ground on all fours. When he reached the bar he got up and ordered a drink. That was just his way of getting through the crowd - genius.

Ah, Mercury Rev in the days of Baker. Now that was a guitar band - don't think I've heard one as good since. I'd dearly love to be corrected, though...

the problem with it being moderated is all of a sudden i find my mailbox flooded with the latest batch of messages approved, and i just tend to delete them. i'm, rather pathetically, on a gazillion mailing lists and none do this.
