A cutting compound is what’s used on paint to restore the top coat by finely rubbing the top layer down a bit. You can either polish up the results or clear coat them.
Or if there is still scratches, wet sand @ 3000 grit, failing that, go coarser until it’s gone,
Then sand in different grades all the way up

Well we're not going that far. Still a headwrecker. Some of the guys are better than me but none of us are very good. But we don't need to be in this case. Here's a before and after comparison (someone else's effort):

First (tiny) bit of work i've been able to do on the van in a few weeks. the rear door hinges upgraded to look less fucked.

that general look has sorta been an advantage to date. it looks like a construction van i.e. invisble.
the long term is to paint it miltary/landrover green because i hate how it looks parked next to forests and also there's rust patches in the post so this is the pre-emtive matt black everything else phase.

is it just a northside thing, or what is the deal with people having their roofs powerhosed recently?
a neighbour about six doors up had theirs done recently. i counted about half a dozen which had been done, on the way to do the shopping; and i was at a thumpeder's house today and there are five or six houses around him where it's been done.

i'd be raging if a neighbour had it done - i'd say everything within 10m or more of the house would be covered in a fine layer of grit afterwards.

I used to do that job, and that's exactly what happens with the grit. It's not even a great idea because it might blow out a leak or weaken a seal. Those jobs spread like wildfire too- you do one house on a Street and you'll be back twice to keep up with the jonses. Did half of West Donegal one summer, you'll be as careful as you can but like always the job you are doing exposes someone else's botch

i should mention that the vast majority of houses i'm seeing it on have those wavy concrete tiles which don't look bad with a bit of moss on them anyway.
i have heard that bio washing powder also does a good job of clearing the roof, but as that would probably end up in the storm drain, i don't like that idea.
