whats a really good topic for my leaving cert history project? I like scandals, poisonings, spies, politics and stuff like that. any suggestions appreciated...

geez, my leaving cert history involved the teacher reading a chapter then telling us to summarise it at which point we'd all discuss the previous nights Cheers and re-enact the good bits.

I don't think any of passed any history exams, ever

Does it have to be Irish history or is it wide open?

wide open. but it has to be sort of specialised like you couldn't do world war 2, you'd have to do a certain place/person/event or something

If you want to do the Tukhachevsky plot, which was when Stalin killed all his best army generals for a laugh during the purges, I'll post you my copy with all my research in it (if I can find it). If you want to do it yourself you could do something more recent in Russian politics. They're mad about their spies and poisonings and stuff.

Be carefull with wikipedia.. apprently your not meant to use it as a source because its so dodge... I wrote my essay off it and just said I double checked all the information I got off it.

Its really easy to bullshit to, I got loads of quotes off random things and said I got them out of all this anarchist economics zine thing.

Just pick something that isnt on the course.

I got a B2 and had a pretty shit one.

Stay away from the Bobby Sands, 1798 kinda shite to, Lynne did one on some special agent during the war. She used to dress up as a man and slept with a load of people and everything.

i know! I LOVE Russia! best ever. ya a few notes would be good to get started, thanks ciansy!

I did mine on James Dillon, Minister of Agriculture in the fifties, who threatened to "drown Britain in a sea of eggs".

I got it from my older brother, who in turn, got it from some dude in another school.

Coggin!

How about Ireland's relationship with the Comintern, or Connolly, Larkin and Lenin? Something like that? Probably would make a great MA thesis, but could be a cool special topic thing, too.

Or how about the early 20th century pogroms in Ireland?

Best fucking orator EVER. I once spent most of a day looking up his speeches on the Oireachteas website. Fucking excellent.

No bother, I should be able to get them for you on Monday when I come back from the picnic. If you want to have a bit of an entertaining read and study Russian history then 'Stalin' by Edvard Radzinsky is worth a look. I got almost all of my report out of one other book, I think it was 'Stalin: Triumph and Tragedy' by Dmitri Volkogonov. It's bleedin' huge.

The history exam should be pretty nice this year, they gave us nearly the exact same paper as last year. They just changed one essay in each block of questions. Pretty shit for some one who left out all the stuff that came up last year and ended up writing quater of a page on Russian Industrial and economic problems before WW1. All I could remember was about some fella called Witte so I just wrote. Then Witte did this, then Witte did that. Then Witte...

As far as I know, Lovely Limerick was the only Irish city to have a pogrom. All the Jews used to live in Wolfe Tone Street.

The ceist speisialta!

I did mine on Hannah Sheehy Skeffington.

She was an awesome republican feminist who was always shouting about things and getting arrested, and her husband was murdered by this totally bonkers British army officer.

Major Zhukov's defence of Moscow in 1941. Can remember nothing but bomb-dogs, and sending light horsemen to meet tanks.

Yeah, war's great.

Weird, i did mine on Francis for the preeeees. Switched to the french generals revolt in Algeria for the proper paper. Ya can't go wrong with a bit of anti-colonialism.
