Zambrotta leaves Barça for Milan

AC Milan announced late on Saturday night that they had completed the signing of Italy full-back Gianluca Zambrotta from FC Barcelona, although no fee or length of contract were disclosed. Two seasons
The 31-year-old returns to Serie A after two seasons in Spain in which he scored three goals in 58 top-flight appearances. Zambrotta, who can operate on either flank, joined Barcelona in 2006 following the demotion of former club Juventus for their part in Italy's sporting fraud scandal. He had played 217 league matches for the Bianconeri.
Dutch test
He never hid his desire to move back to Italy one day, but arrives at Milan after Carlo Ancelotti's side finished fifth in Serie A and failed to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League. Capped 71 times by his country, Zambrotta looks certain to start the Azzurri's opening UEFA EURO 2008™ game against the Netherlands in Berne on 9 June.

I'm guessing this means that Dani Alves is close to signing for Barca.
Which would be immense.

Defender Caceres seals deal with Barcelona
BARCELONA, June 4 (Primera Liga) - Barcelona have completed the signing of Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres from Villarreal for 16.5million euros, both clubs have confirmed. The 21-year-old will join the Catalan giants on a four-year deal after never having played a single game in Villarreal colours. A statement on the Barcelona website read: 'FC Barcelona and Villarreal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jose Martin Caceres. The price of the deal is 16.5 million euros. 'The player will sign a contract with Barcelona for the next four seasons which will include a buy-out clause of 50million euros.' Caceres joined Villarreal from Defensor Sporting de Montevideo last year but spent the entirety of last season on loan at Recreativo Huelva. He becomes Barcelona's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Seydou Keita and Gerard Pique.

Aha! Perhaps a bit of pace in the centre of the Barca defense now?

Barcelona agree deal for Sevilla fullback Alves
MADRID, June 7 (Reuters) - Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Brazil fullback Daniel Alves from Sevilla, the player confirmed on Saturday. 'I am very pleased an agreement has been reached and that I will be joining a club of the stature of Barcelona,' Alves was quoted as telling Spanish radio station RAC1. 'I am an ambitious player and hope that by joining an important club like this it will help me to win titles.' Spanish media reported that the 25-year-old international was set to move on a four-year contract for a fee of 29.5 million euros ($46.04 million), rising to 36 million euros depending on appearances and results. Barca are expected to confirm the deal on Monday. Alves, who can play on the right of defence or midfield, joined Sevilla from Bahia for less than one million euros in 2003 and was an outstanding player as they won back-to-back UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007. He was closely linked with a move to Chelsea last year but since the end of this season has made little secret of his desire to join the Catalans. Alves will be Barca's fourth new signing of the close season, after midfielder Seydou Keita and defenders Martin Caceres and Gerard Pique, as they look to reconstruct the side under new coach Pep Guardiola. Arsenal midfielder Aleksandr Hleb is reportedly Barca's next target.

Fuckin' sweet.

Barca to launch MLS franchise bid

Spanish club Barcelona are set to launch a bid with a Bolivian entrepreneur to become co-owners of a Major League Soccer franchise in Miami.
The MLS plans to add two teams to its league for the 2011 season, with the deadline for applications on Wednesday.
"The idea is to set up an investee company involving FC Barcelona and a Bolivian entrepreneur, Marcelo Claure," read a statement on the club's website.
Claure owns Bolivia's FC Bolivar, with whom Barcelona already collaborate.

"Claure is the chief on an investment group featuring Americans and citizens of different South American countries," the statement continued. "The company's sole aim right now is to present an application for the franchise and promote it to the MLS."
The MLS currently has 14 teams but is set to expand with Seattle joining in 2009 and Philadelphia in 2010 before a further two franchises are included a year later.
Miami Fusion played in the MLS from 1998 to 2001 before losing its franchise.

Yup. They were dancing in the streets over here (here being Barcelona). It would be a shame if they can't break down Chelsea.

Referee had a stinker in fairness. Chelsea must have had six peno claims of varying degrees. Two probable definites. Sending was a joke too.

were the lads on rte watching the same match as me ?

great to see chelsea go out like that though

were the lads on rte watching the same match as me ?

yes, through their beer goggles

ffs, dunphy with his " if you don't get messi, you don't get football". so cheap. of course we get messi eamon - he didn't play that well over the two legs, decent in spells tonight but peripheral, the kind of performance you would have a lash at ronaldo for.

edit - messi is the best player in the world imo, but let's be fair.

Comedy gold, as was his waving at the cameras at the end (don't know if ye saw that, twas still on the Italian telly). It looked like he was trying to tell the world 'the result doesn't stand'.
enjoy watching the final on telly dickhead
