Piqué returns to Barcelona

Defender had a year left on his Old Trafford deal

Defender Gerard Piqué has decided to end his stay at Manchester United in favour of a return to his former club Barcelona.
Piqué, 21, left Camp Nou four years ago but has struggled to hold down a first-team place in a defence which last season proved to be the strongest in the Premier League.
The Spaniard, who made 14 appearances for United and scored two Champions League goals, had a year left to run on his five-year deal, but elected to return to Barcelona after failing to move ahead of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in the pecking order in central defence.
"Piqué will this afternoon sign a contract that will link him to Barcelona until June 30 2012 and include a buy-out clause of £39.9m," read a statement on Barcelona's official club website. "With this transfer Piqué returns to Barça, the club in which he began his career as a player between 1997 and 2004, when he left to join Manchester United."
Following a disappointing season in which the Catalan club finished third in La Liga, this summer promises to be one of significant change at Barcelona, where Pep Guardiola has replaced Frank Rijkaard as manager.

May 26 (Reuters) - Barcelona have signed Mali midfielder Seydou Keita from Sevilla on a four-year contract, the Primera Liga club said on Monday.
Keita, 28, severed his contract with Sevilla, whom he joined from Racing Lens on a four-year deal in 2007. Spanish media reported the fee would be between 14 and 16 million euros.
The defensive midfielder made 31 league appearances, scoring four goals for Sevilla last season.

Talk to me about Bojan. Has he impressed? He hasn't looked anything wonderful. Like he's no Messi.

The boy's still only 17.
Leo Messi didn't look the monster he is until about half way through his second season in the first team.
We'll know more about how 'real deal' Bojan is this time next year.

He doesn't really fit in to the Barca 4-3-3 terribly well. He's good enough to play across the front three, but it'd be interesting to see him partnered with another striker.

He won't be much missed -

Edmilson leaves Barcelona to join Villarreal

MADRID, May 23 (Reuters) - Villarreal have agreed to sign Barcelona's Brazilian midfielder Edmilson on a two-year contract. The versatile 31-year-old, who helped Brazil win the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, started his career with Sao Paulo and Olympique Lyon before moving to Barcelona in 2004. He helped Barca win the Champions League two years ago but withdrew from his country's 2006 World Cup squad with a knee injury.
He only made five starts for the side last season and his contract expires in June. Villarreal were runners up to Real Madrid in the Primera Liga earlier this month, finishing ahead of third-placed Barca, to earn automatic qualification to the Champions League for next year. In his farewell news conference in Barcelona, Edmilson said the last two years when the club failed to win any silverware, had been the hardest of his eight years in Europe.
'We thought that because we had the best team we would win everything, but at the end of the day the other teams have been much better prepared than us,' he told a news conference. 'When you don't win it is normal to make changes, and to refresh the mentality in the squad.'

The great thing about Messi is that nobody has been like Messi in donkeys years. So I wouldn't hold that against Bojan. I think he'll be a class act.
