listened to spiderland for the first time since around the slint gig yesterday and the sound of the guitars was particularly pleasing.

Albums:

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
In Case We Die by Architecture in Helsinki
From A Basement On The Hill by Elliott Smith. Also hadn't listened to this in ages an ages. Almost overcome by the Fond Farewell-Kings Crossing-Twilight bit.

Songs:

'Messthetics' and 'Skank Bloc Bologna' by Scritti Pollitti. Is their early stuff more angular than Gang of Four? Is it even possible to be more angular than GO4?

'Hide and Seek' by Imogen Heap (!) from the last episode of the OC. Genius.

'Cattle and Cane' by the Go Betweens. Their Best of... starts off so crap but the middle of it is just insane, especially this song and 'Part Company'. It reminds me of No Name#6 by Elliott Smith cos it mentions driving alongside cows. Also the spoken word bit is brilliant and so is the weird intro.

Favourite things right now:

Current 93: I have a special plan for this world

Gravediggaz - Niggamortis/6 Feet Deep
Dirty 3 - Torn And Frayed,
KLF/Jamms - The Chill Out

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On?
The Album Leaf - In A Safe Place
Phil Spector - Back To Mono
David Bowie - Low
Ego Trip's The Big Playback
Kraftwerk - The Man Machine

Current Favourite Songs:
Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
Guns 'n' Roses - Live And Let Die
The Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
Alison Krauss - Down To The River To Pray

Human League - Don't You Want Me
Black Street - No Diggity

No I haven't heard it. I noticed that it was written by Alain Tousaint who wrote most of Dorsey's stuff but I didn't realise he did a version of it.

it's on 'saturday night fish fry' which is the second new orleans funk compilation on soul jazz, it's ace.
good times.

its great, but i do find it quite hard to take, very disturbing stuff i find.

Mirror: Nightwalkers

many consider that one of the weakest mirror albums. it is certainly the most atypical. the other one who was in HNAS plays on that, which is why its got clickly and guitary things going on. i still really enjoy it mind. i havent heard a bad thing by mirror, though i havent heard the "viking burial from a french car" or whatever its called, the latest one. collaboration with some scottish musicians. meant to be right stinker alas.

KLF/Jamms - The Chill Out

stunning album, alot of memories of being wideawake in some strange place at 6 in the morning connected with that one.

I like The Chill Out too but I think the White Room is a very underrated album. Probably because of its chart success at the time. Pure pop of course but why should that be a bad thing. Has any read 45 by Bill Drummond? I think the best book about music I've ever read and possibly the best (auto)biography I've read too.

I really like 45 - not the best autobiography i've read - a very entertaining and interesting read though.

Anyway a few favourites I forgot to mention

Cybotron-Alleys of Your Mind
Model 500-Night Drive Through Babylon
Rhythm and Sound-Troddin Version
A Number of Names-Shari Vari
Cybotron-Clear (recently butchered by Missy Elliot)

yes, White Room is superb, i don't much like the rapping on it however. "3 AM Eternal" is brilliant.

yes, excellent book. he also wrote one with mark manning (aka zodiac mindwarp of the love reaction) called "bad wisdom" which is superb. really perverse. i lent my copy of it to a member of daemian frost years ago and that were the last i saw of that.
