wimmin in bands?

There should be a gig that features only female bands to redress the balance. It would be like that programme "Tonka" about the Japanese women's prison (at least in my mind it would)

You mean Tenko?
Tonka make those toy trucks.

Ha! Beat you to it 1984.:p

I seem to remember when Jim Caroll wrote a lot for the Event Guide he used to indulge in this style of writing. There was at least one person I know who was going to kill him.

Seems like he's the only one who is still doing what he did in the past.

listen

somebody just take his e-mail address there and sign it up to all kinds of depraved spam sending porno lists

then we can all carry on with our lives

oh yeah that's right, duh! those Tonka trucks, was there anything they couldn't do?

Tenko, that's like if you're from west Cork and you buy something and they give you change and you say Tenko very much

okay....well we'll have a gig that.....features bands...with toy trucks in them? I'm clutching at straws here, aint I?

Actually, I think you might be onto something there.

In fact, we could go with that theme and call it Tonky.

Or we could have a gig that features only bands from outside the pale - call it Honky.

Or we could have a gig that features some of the more masturbatory music of our lovely isle - call it Wanky.

okay I'll stop now

Spanky
Cranky
Spunky
King Konky??

Hey! Why don't all the women organise a Girls in Bands night then? Ha? It would be interesting to see all o them put together. And ye know that 'Chicks on decks' night in the Thomas HOuse. Why don't they change the name slightly to 'Chicks with decks', like those Thailand sorts. Is that not what the gag is meant to be anyway? Seems like they didn't quite pull it off!

In advance : Shut up Hector!

if cliqueyness brought about thingsyoure missing, why are all the meetings publicised on a mailing list that anyone can sign up to, why do we send out a weekly email to hundreds of people telling us all about the whole thing, why do we have a website that anyone can post news to, and why did we have an article in a publication as obscure and cliquey as the evening herald? or is it ideologically inconvenient to consider stuff like that, buh?

my point was that the cliqueyness brought about something very positive. i didn't make that very clear though.

Don't know who the bloke is, Pee.
Just came across some personal site with this photo.

You should use the asian guy as your Avatar. The expression on his face is priceless. Looks like his Boss is taking the photo. And he's just after banging the bosses daughter. Ha!

GZ did have a "Ladies Night" at some point in the last few months, featuring bands with ladies in them, in an effort to encourage girls to be more musically pro-active. I heard there was a disappointing lack of support from the local female scenesters, though. I guess it didnt help that the headlining band had no female members...
There was a good riot girl style band in GZ last night, Michael Dracula, but most people seemed more intent on talking, which was a real shame.

GZ, in the parnell Mooney. It used to stand for Ground Zero, but the name was changed around mid september last year...

I have to hang my head and say that I've only been to GZ when I've been playing but it's always deadly. Can't believe you've never heard of it Speedy. Well, I can actually.

oh hang on... the last 80's night. <shudder>
