Ha yeah. I looks that way. Counter weight for the clamps. As neck and headstock are slanted backwards it doesn’t lie flat so I work with it raised on a chunk of wood

Didn’t have to break out the hammer in the end, second pass at the frets, down to some levelling now.
A sand to 250, make a nut, and then we’ll see if it works or explodes when I string it up

still undecided!
silly and all as It sounds I've not really figured out if its primarily an electric or acoustic instrument.
if its the former I'd go with a blue stain/tinted shellac finish, if the latter possibly clear.
I'll wire up the pickup this evening to see how it works...

Engleman spruce I used for the top is strange - seems to have very loose fibres for want of a better word - I did this with masking tape! It’s obviously strong, but flakey.. hopefully the seal coat will help pull it together


I’m planning to make a pickguard from scraps of mahogany left from the back in any case

Yeah, I’ve less issues with damaged caused as a result of my own stupidity, as opposed to trying to protect the timber! It’s very light coloured, so should be able to fill with a tiny bit of light filler

Sealed, grain filled and sanded. Wipe of white spirits before the finishing begins

Is that a good or a bad ‘ooh’
The colour on the top will end up less electric blue when the tinted shellac goes one.. (I think based on past experience)

I think it’s cooked. May have some touch ups on the fret board edge when I take the masking tape off.
