"Unjust & unwanted wars, poverty, prisons for profit and now cyberspace censorship…unholy fuck, there is some crazy shit happening right now, and luckily some bands are willing to take a stand against it! Appalachian Terror Unit are a West Virginia anarcho punk band who create music that gives a voice to the downpressed humans worldwide. ATU's newest release Black Sands will not disappoint – 4 songs that clock in over 13 minutes, packed with awesome metallic riffs and lyrics that bring home issues we all should have on our minds. What’s so on point about this band is that they are the total fucking package; not only do they incite change on the lyrical tip, but the music they lay down is so epic. ATU are able to balance all of the influences of metal, crust and punk with pure passion and conviction, which makes their songs dig deeper into your mind...." - CVLT NATION

fall-of-efrafa-owsla-lp.jpg

Repressed as 180 Gramm Deluxe Version and with heavy cover! Fucking hell, this is one of the best records I got my hands on lately! Hard hitting, yet melodic and epic crusty HCpunk with a Cello and throaty vocal style from Brighton UK. They really know how to create a desperate and aggressive athmosphere at the same time. This band delivers their music with a lot of variation in speed which makes the songs memorable and entertaining which is hardly the case nowadays. Lyrix based upon the book "Watership Down" - Awesome!

dresden-extinguish-the-cross-7.jpg

Dis-consin's (Wisconsin's) defenders of d-beat crust are back with a new 7" titled "Extinguish The Cross". This record captures Dresden at their best. They offer up two epic ragers that pound with crushing intensity and shredding guitar solos. Their lyrics attack hypocricy and the KKK. Recorded by Tom Tom Burt (In Defence/Garmonbozia) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise). Amazing artwork by Jeremy Clark (aka HUSH). Grab your copy before it's gone!

Counterblast - Nothingness 2xLP
counterblast-nothingness-2xlp.jpg

FInally a new full length by this swedish slow dark crust heroes! Monumental crust from Sweden with a very unique style that blends elements of crust, metal and somewhat ambient, eerie and tribal sounding music together. You can hear some influences from other bands such as Amebix, Dystopia and Neurosis in parts, but Counterblast's is something truly unique that must be experienced to understand how amazing this is.

Unkind - Yhteiskunnan Pikkuvikoja LP + CD
unkind-yhteiskunnan-pikkuvikoja-lp-cd.jpg

this is fucking great. an amazing and totally bleak and definitely their best record so far from this finnish band, combining a more muted and moody take on DISFEAR-style rocked out guitar riffs, savagely shouted vocals ala VICTIMS, and then the dark and epic scope of NEUROSIS (and their slower, low end lumbering) , TRAGEDY (mood carrying guitar riffs and solos) ARTIMUS PYLE (bursting from all of that into wicked thrash) and their ilk. The Recording is crazy serious and megalithic, allowing the weight of the riffs to be literally oppressive and powerful then just clearing enough space for the band to blast fast thrashier parts. top knotch musician ship, the mood of the whole affair somber as it can get, and while this metallic influenced crust style is seems at times almost completely currently dismissed stateside / locally, if you like any of the five bands I just mentioned, buy this immediately. AWESOME. LP includes the CD and comes in a 350g Cover, 280g printed innersleeves, 180g Vinyl

Agnosy – Past The Point Of No Return LP

Coming from the ashes of BEGINNING OF THE END with just new singer (this time male one) London's apocalypse warriors strike back with a bang. You can hear they tuned down their instruments and progressed in songwriting department whitout losing any intensity of their old band's trademark dark and melodic metallic riffs. Six songs of hard driven and thick sounding epic crust (NOT to be confused with so called neo-crust) clocking in at 28 minutes. Mandatory "ex-members of..." list includes also GIVE UP ALL HOPE, DOOM, HIATUS, WHOLE IN THE HEAD and many more... Beautiful gloomy artwork on both cover (printed on 350g reverse matte paper) and 4-page 12"x12" lyric sheet. Includes also digital download code.

civil-victim-false-hope-lp.jpg

Civil Victim are from Germany but sound influenced by American hardcore with some Scandinavian stuff to put some weight to their punch. I hear some Poison Idea in here, but it’s not some by-the-numbers type shit. Their music is beefy hardcore punk that has catchy and tuneful elements side by side with a dark and gritty edge. Songs like “Sorry for Being Broke,” “Personal Riot,” and “Workmares” blaze by in a white-knuckled flash, then you get a song like “Room Full of Christians” that switches back and forth between mid tempo and full on thrash. The vocalist has a shredded throat style; at times he sounds like Dez Cadena. Check out the title track, where his voice has a little more space instead of being buried under a roaring guitar. “Where’s the Healing?” is my favorite of the twelve songs on here. Starts off with a hellish bang then attacks religion (a target always deserving of ire). The song has a little more noise going on and may be a little darker

pyroklast-wartorn-split-lp.jpg

PYROKLAST / WARTORN split LP
The Last Line of Defense is a split LP between two of Wisconsin's most noteworthy hardcore / crust bands of today - released just in time for the bands' joint 2010 East Coast tour. Appleton's WARTORN fill their side with two lengthy virtuosos of monstrous crust power, while Madison's PYROKLAST (ex-DISCIDER) level all left standing with six mad blasts of hardcore thrash. Hush (aka Jeremy Clark) contributes awesome new art for both the front and back covers, with a characteristically apocalyptic perspective that perfectly suite this album's title.

burnt-cross-break-the-law-not-the-poor-7.jpg

Burnt Cross - Break The Law Not The Poor 7"
The brothers Marriot show no let up in their output as yet another explosive blast of full-blooded anarcho-punk is committed to vinyl. This time round, they're busy calling out murdering bastard cops for the scum they are and suggesting a suitable riposte with their stripped-down and powered-up reworking of The Apostles' 'Mob Violence', a venom-filled verbal assault on the rich and their lackey police (and which, along with Conflict's 'The Ungovernable Force', rates as my all-time joint-favourite punk rock song). Rob combines metal-edged fuck-off guitar and bare-knuckle bass with a cleverly-programmed drum machine to produce music that's steeped in the legacy of the Crass bands without sounding in the least bit hackneyed, while Paul spits out the vocals with a ferocity that's well-matched to the lyrics.

It's all wrapped up in a heavy card sleeve sporting a suitably combative red 'n' black (with a bit of white) graphic on the front, a lyric sheet inside, and a label that's one of the smartest I've seen in quite a while.

warcollapse-defy-lp.jpg

The Swedish gods of crust break three years of silence to unleash a new masterpiece of epic proportions. Twelve brutal new songs that layer new realms of gutteral intensity to the traditional Swedish d-beat KÄNG of the likes of TÖTALITAR, KRIGSHOT, WOLFBRIGADE, etc. And of course there is plenty of the traditional WARCOLLAPSE sound that emphasizes mournful dirges, captivating guitar leads, and vocal style that is as primal as it is guttteral. If you are a fan of their previoues releases then this will certainly not disappoint - delivering all the goods than made WARCOLLAPSE a name among legends. Their previous titles include the Crust As Fuck Existence CD on Distortion Records, Divine Intoxications LP/CD on Mind Control, split EP's with DISRUPT and EXTINCTION OF MANKIND and a number of other EP's, a live 10" and video, plus several compilation tracks. In addition to releasing this new record, WARCOLLAPSE are also planning to tour outside of Sweden for the first time in years.

nux-vomica-embrace-the-cycles-7.jpg

Their sound is almost impossible to describe, as it does not fit neatly into any predefined genre or pigeon hole. Instead they draw elements from every great form of heavy music, including metal, punk, crust, and hardcore. The result is ultimately discursive, heavy, uniquely original and totally epic, loaded with intensity, passion, and excellent musicianship. The two songs on this record are no exception. To me it feels like maybe they were listening to a bit more black metal when they wrote these, but maybe not. They also incorporate a viola for an extra layer of epic atmosphere. The lyrics are, as always, intelligent, insightful, poetic, contemplative, introspective, and a bit confusing. The cover art is as bleak and epic as the music, with a barren, desolate, foggy, hopeless looking photo of a decaying, partially deforested landscape. This 7” is a European tour release, limited to 500 copies, pressed on grey/brown marbled vinyl, so get this while you can. Another great release by this innovative band.

-cry-havoc-a-feast-for-the-crows-lp.jpg

They throw lots of influence in their music, the flow and the groove of rockn’roll in their music. When the d-beat mixed with stoner/rock riff on the guitar parts make this bands more creative. The solo part all perfect and the low sludgy bass part are brilliant!! Few years ago DISFEAR – Live The Storm LP has prove to the world that punk rock is not only 3 chord things. The punks also can rock the world! Now its time for CRY HAVOC take over! If you big fans of 2 last records from DISFEAR, CRY HAVOC don’t let you down. SOUTHERN LORD and RELAPSE will fight hard to get this band under their radar if they found this records. 10 tracks, recorded in 1in12 Studio and mastered by Bri (DOOM). opposition-rising-aftermathematics-lp.jpg

Right out of the gates this is a god damned punk rock tour-de-fucking force! Bill and company do an excellent job of crisscrossing punk rock sub-genres by taking the catchy, sing along, anthems of 80's hardcore, down tuning them and adding a bit of crust-punk grittiness. Much like Bill's earlier projects (TOXIC NARCOTIC and MOUTH SEWN SHUT) OPPOSITION RISING will surely find an audience with hardcore kids, thrashers, crust punk warriors and even the street punks.

From New York come a raw punk attack outfit named Perdition, they have a sound which I find myself liking with every listen to them and other similar such bands it is of a raw punk sound with a nice bit of distortion which isnt to heavy just a bit of feedback solid hardcore sound all round. Its a mix of early 80’s Scandi Hardcore like Tampere SS and Kaaos with that of Japanese distortion. Nice high voltage guitars, steady drum beats and lots of singing. Over all this is a fairly solid record and a band that are worth a few minutes of your time without doubt really early 80’s feel about this record from the sound to the lyrics sheet and general layout very chaotic and very cool.

Grinding Halt/Suffering Quota split 7"
grinding-halt-suffering-quota-split-7-.jpg

Now here's another amazing split that recently surfaced on the web that I absolutely had to post after hearing. This split EP features two bands from Groningen, Netherlands. I first heard Grinding Halt on their split 10" with Ireland's Drainland. These three new songs continue along the same lines as their earlier material on this release. Grinding Halt play a blistering, chaotic, style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, grind, and emoviolence. Grinding Halt's three songs are played almost flawlessly and with a calculated brutality that levels everything in it's path. Grinding Halt is a must listen for fans of Charles Bronson, Asshole Parade, Iron Lung, and Resurrectionists. On the second side of the EP is a relatively new band from the same region named Suffering Quota. I was unfamiliar with this band and was equally impressed by their three songs as well. Suffering Quota play a similar style of music as Grinding Halt and give strong nods to Orchid, Ampere, Phobia, and Assuck with their sound. Seriously, this is one amazing 7". Highly recommended!

Half of ACTS OF SEDITION are in this band, if that matters to you (it should), and the band members contribute as much as they create...worth your time in so many ways. Thought-out, catchy melodies merge with powerful and harsh guitar-riffs. The bass lines have a very good sense for hidden melodies. All this is framed by the desperate, yet aggressive vocals. This is a truely epic! 'Epic' in a sense, that is absolutly not contrived and insincere (like so many bands nowadays), but full of passion and energy. The songs on this record show that this band is capable of composing beyond the path of sheer brutality, blending in smooth interludes and interesting bass lines along the way.

Arctic Flowers - Procession 12"EP
arctic-flowers-procession-12-ep-us-import.jpg

Arctic Flowers' "Procession" EP is a little bit dark postpunk, a little bit peace/anarcho-punk, and a little bit deathrock. The upshot of this potent musical cocktail is an especially compelling and noteworthy addition to Arctic Flowers' catalog, their first release since their awesome 2011 debut LP, Reveries. "Procession" reminds at turns of early Siouxsie Sioux, the Smartpils, The Plague ("Paradise of Pain"), and the Superheroines from LA's old deathrock scene. The band's name comes from a Rubella Ballet song, and comparisons to that band's sound and message are certainly in order, too. Procession's title track is a mid-to-uptempo, thumping dark rocker; other tracks explore both the band's gothier ("Strange Ports of Call") and punkier ("The Wrecking") sides. Singer Alex's vocals conjure up past greats like Zillah Minx and Pauline Murray (of Penetration). The rest of the band has a pedigree that includes Signal Lost, and although one can hear shades of members' past bands in Arctic Flowers' output, Procession's overall sound serves as a fitting capstone to the band's decidedly darker turn. Arctic Flowers thankfully keep the "punk" part of the post-punk equation in the mix, too, and this is evinced in both the band's lyrics and in their palpable DIY sensibility. The production and musicianship doesn't sound DIY, however -- at least, not in the sense that "DIY" has often come to be a euphemism for "sounds like crap." The production job by Stan Wright at Buzz or Howl serves the music well, keeping it spry and punchy, placing Alex's vocals firmly and audibly in the mix, adding in spooky echoes when necessary. The Procession EP is one of the more prominent releases in the recent movement to marry the styles of UK anarcho-punk and gothpunk to US deathrock, filtered through the lens of -- and moving past and beyond -- the past decade's punk scene's fascination with d-beat. "Procession" is dark, intelligent, guitar-driven, and compelling.

LIGHT BAERER features Alex from FALL OF EFRAFA on vocals and people from the old english hardcore band DUNGEONS! LIGHT BEARER is a concept band from the south east of England. NORTHLESS Since I've been running this label there's been very few times in my life that I've been witness to such a crushing sludge metal band. Northless blew my mind the first time I listend them as a four-piece. With this Split the band's intensity is captured on record, at long last. Since adding two additional members to the lineup (the band started as guitar/drum duo) Northless has expanded on their original style of atmospheric sludgy metal and gone beyond the barrier that holds lesser bands back. This progression enabled Northless to break through into new territory and write truly exceptional songs, more focused, more dense. This Split might be one of the most misanthropic, angst-filled albums I've ever heard, but it never fails to instill a feeling of hope in the listener. A hope that a band can draw upon familiar influences and personal experiences, draw on them and combine them to create something that breaks the mold of slow & heavy music.

WARNING//WARNING - There's Nothing Left 12"
warning-warning-there-s-nothing-left-12.jpg

Skull splitting nuclear hardcore punk that could only be crafted by these 4 disgusting individuals in France near the border of Spain. This release is more harsh sounding than their past efforts but this still retains a hardcore edge with well written, catchy songs. After 2 tapes and a 7" this is their debut LP. For fans of Gai, Confuse, Lebenden Toten, Atrocious Madness.

Warning//Warning - My World 7"
warning-warning-my-world-7-japanese-import.jpg

If you haven't heard the Warning//Warning demo of last year yet, please get yer head out of yr ass. I'm kind of confused by this band though...They're from France, but sing in English, but have Japanese song titles/printed lyrics. I don't think anyone in this band is from Japan either, "Fabro, Nico, Olive, and Fish" all sound pretty frenchie to me. I also don't know if they're just a bunch of French hipsters that discovered recordings sound 'cool' if you set up a recorder in a tin-can across the room combined with delayed vocals, and somehow got a cool graphic designer to punk-out all their artwork. Whatever. Who cares. This shit is great. Total Japanese noisecore worship, in the vein of bands like Tranquilizer, Confuse, Coward etc. Classic "broken english" styled lyrics and killer wah-pedal effects too. I guess some of these dudes were in that french raw-punk band Gasmask Terror. Hope this guys head to the states soon. The first track is titled in Japanese text, but, I obviously don't know Japanese, or where to find those stupid characters on the internet, so deal with it.

Dekoder - Between The Waking And The Dying - LP
dekoder-between-the-waking-and-the-dying-lp.jpg

Dekoder - Between The Waking And The Dying LP is the 8 songs debut LP for this female fronted post punk band from Montreal. Playing the dark brooding post-punk style which has seemingly rised from within and broken out. Bringing what can only be described as some of the best and most interesting bands in the punk scene in recent years and Dekoder are one of the best bands to have risen to the fore front of this new wave of punk. With the breathing darkness and unsettling haunting of Goth punk mixed with the sound of Anarcho punk of the early 80's. A abnd well worth checking out.
Some of yous may know Dave from Preying Hands, Crossed Stitched Eyes who also plays with these.
