Upon returning from a European tour late in 2006, Ballast promptly broke up. 3/5th of the band would continue to play together and soon would form PREYING HANDS including new members whose previous efforts included Montreal bands Snake Master, Desperate Living and Last Days. The sound seamlessly blends an odd combination of crust, melodic hardcore and a touch of pop punk. The powerful female vocals, that lyrically combine the personal with the political, complete an intense picture. Production was handled on this debut effort by Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, weird...) at the Pines and mastered at Mammoth Sound by Dan Randall (Limp Wrist, Government Warning).

Oi Polloi/KANSALAISTOTTELEMATTOMUUS CD EP

​

This a split benefit fundraiser CD for the Stockholm autonomous Cyklopen centre that was burnt down by neo-nazis, it gives a background on the autonomous space a brief look into the future with the construction of a new space,
It was my first time to every to hear KANSALAISTOTTELEMATTOMUUS who's name I am still trying to say, hailing from Finland they share the same singer as Oi Polloi which can be confusing at first as DEEKs voice is pretty recognisable and leads you to pondering which band you are listening to. KANSALAISTOTTELEMATTOMUUS bring two brand new tracks of some really great songs of aggression fuelled hardcore which has a very strong bass giving it a real dirty feel, the lyrics are strong and catchy and just like Oi Polloi would have you singing along. In my opinion KANSALAISTOTTELEMATTOMUUS are actually the better band on this CD not that Oi Polloi don't they to give a strong performance with one song in English "System" which delivers some more of their "street crust" (a term which I have only became familiar with when listening to other Oi Polloi tracks) and "Cyklopen" in Gaelic which has a kinda early crust feel to it in the Vein of the likes of Amebix.
All in all a good cause and a good CD.
