Desert Island Pricks - Your 5 favourite albums of all time (1 Viewer)

When I was 21 it was

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Radiohead - OK Computer
Talking Heads - Remain In Light
REM - Reckoning
Aphex Twin - Richard D James

Still is now. I'm leaving off Nirvana - In Utero because it's not so much a favourite as it is a given. Like having a birth mark or something. Plus i barely ever listen to it now.

Very close to what my 21 yr old self would have had. With mine I tried to think of albums that have stayed with me a long time but I still listen to on a regular basis. Evol, for example, I go back to a lot more these days than Daydream Nation. In Utero, yeah it will always be one of my favourites. 5 is too hard.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse Weld
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Greendale
Funkadelic Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow
The Velvet Underground White Light/White Heat
Dirty Three Ocean Songs

There are loads of artists whose entire back catalogues mean a lot to me (Einstuerzende Neubauten, Coil, Keiji Haino, Nick Cave, Godspeed/Silver Mt. Zion, Low, etc.) but these are the ones I go back to the most and the ones that when they are playing, I find it very hard to do anything else other than listen intently and air guitar/air violin along.
Green dale? Really??

I can't really think of favorites but ones that have stuck with me over the years (in the order that I encountered them) are

a-ha - Scoundrel Days
Pink Floyd - Animals
Roy Harper - HQ
Robert Wyatt - Dondestan (but not Dondestan (Revisited))
Sonic Youth - Washing Machine

These date from the days when I could afford about 4 new tapes a year and read about albums months or years before I ever heard them.

Yeah, it's terrific and hugely under-rated. Some of his finest guitar work of his career, good vibes and strong all the way through. Not the most subtle message in the world but the pluses overwhelm the minuses for me. It's not that it's necessarily better than all the other Crazy Horse albums but I reckon it gets played 1-2 times a month (along with Weld) where as I cycle through the rest of his career depending on my mood. I'd save it if there was a fire.

Has the added bonus of having a DVD of one of the best gigs I've ever been to included with the album.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Dopplereffekt - Gesamtkunstwerk
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - Deja Vu
Kraftwerk - Computer World
Midnight Star - No Parking on The Dance Floor

I've gotten this up to 4

in no particular order

NMH - Airplane
Pink Floyd - Animals
Michael Knight - Youth is Wasted on the Young
Belle and Sebatian - Lady Line EPs (not strictly an album but fuck it)

I'll try and think of a 5th (but will likely change that 4 up there before I do)

In no particular order...

Dag Nasty - Wig Out At Denkos
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today
Slayer - Reign In Blood
7 Seconds - Walk Together, Rock Together
