DECOMMISSIONED FEST - BELFAST, 23 + 24 AUGUST (1 Viewer)

I demand that Colm is given a gasmask and got drunk...i want to experience that obscenely disgusting spectale that people have told me about.

Here Cormac, what's the craic with each day's lineup? Is it stickin to the poster's?

Not quite. Pocket Billiards are now playing the Saturday night, and 1 more band might have to move across to Saturday as I was misinformed with what time the door could be on Sunday. Should hopefully be able to post up times and all that tomorrow though!

Right everyone, here the full times for the fest. As above, Droppin Bombs had to pull out, as Skuzz is afraid of becoming fatally injured like at all the other fests he plays at. Also the door times are changed from the poster, these are the correct times below:

SATURDAY 23rd:

DOORS 3.30 P.M
FILM SHOWING BEFORE THE BANDS (Hopefully, still not sure about actually getting this set-up!)

FIRST BAND, 5.30!

The Gremlins (Drogheda) - 5.30-6.00
Complan (Belfast/Dublin) - 6.15-6.45
Bacchus (Galway) - 7.00-7.30
The Lobotomies (Belfast) - 7.45-8.15
Les Christpunchers (Galway) - 8.30-9.00
Roosky (Dublin) - 9.15-9.50
(R)evolution of a Sun (Cork) - 10.05-10.40
Gary Suicidal Kids Commando (France) - 10.55-11.40
Pocket Billiards (Belfast) - 12.00-1.00ish

SUNDAY 24th:

If the weather is nice and people are up for it, possibly some football in a park before the gig, then

DOORS - 6.30 P.M - Doors had to be put back to 6.30 at the venue's request, nothing I can do about that unfortunately, means Sunday will be a squeeze for bands.

1ST BAND - 6.45 P.M
Apathetic Youth (North Coast - Portrush/Portstewart?) 6.45-7.15
Hand of Death (Belfast) 7.30-8.00
Cut The Reins (Galway) 8.15-8.45
1000 Drunken Nights (Belfast) 9.00-9.30
Crowd Control (Dublin) 9.45-10.15
S.T.U.N.T (Belfast) 10.30-11.00
Runnin' Riot (Belfast) 11.15-12.00ish

That is currently the full-on line-up for each day. It is subject to change but that's the basic shape of things.

Travelling info - getting to Belfast from Dublin

Trains - These run frequently enough until about 10 p.m. Quite expensive though. Run from Connelly Station to Belfast Central Station. www.translink.co.uk

Buses - Two to choose from, the Aircoach (www.aircoach.ie) which goes up and down between Belfast and Dublin every hour between 6 a.m-9p.m (last bus leaves Belfast 8.30 p.m), and the Ulsterbus/Bus Eireann (www.translink.co.uk - Timetable service 200) which also runs overnight between Belfast and Dublin.

Aircoach is slightly cheaper, more comfortable, and you can get it from a whole bunch of places in Dublin although you have to transfer to Belfast at the Airport. You can get on in Dublin though and get a return (€20) to Belfast which will take you to the airport and then transfer you to Belfast, and the same back. Stops in Belfast outside Jury's Hotel, which is just a minute or two walk from the Europa Hotel/Bus Station where the Ulsterbus stops.
Bus Eireann/Ulsterbus leaves from the Bus Station round beside Connelly Station, and is a bit more expensive and less comfortable (think it's €24 right now, going up next week too!). No need to transfer there. Stops in Belfast at the Europa Bus Station. Overnight buses go from just outside the side entrance of the Europa to just outside Connelly bus station, and vice versa. There is a "Super Single" fare though, leaves three times a day, and is £5.20/€7.00 single way at the moment. Need to check timetables for times though, and this fare will go up next week too!

Each bus will basically take 3 hours to get to Belfast, assuming there are no major hold-ups anywhere. The train will take approx. 2 hours 15 minutes, not that much faster, not really worth it for the money you pay, although it is more comfortable.

Once in Belfast, The Pavilion is 35-40 minutes walk from the bus stations, or about 25-30 minutes walk from the train station.
If you're not familiar with Belfast and have a person or two with you, then getting a taxi might not be a bad option as The Pavilion is just outside the city centre in the South part of the city.
There are city buses (7a,7b,7c,7d) that run past the venue as well, but as they are £1.40 single fare (stop is across from the Europa bus station) a taxi is just as good an option for a group of people.

To walk-
From Aircoach/Ulsterbus (Europa Bus Station basically)
Head out front of the Europa, and take the road up to the right (Great Victoria Street), towards the big T.V screen. At this junction, cross to just beneath the T.V screen, and take the left-hand fork there, this is Botanic Avenue. Walk up Botanic Avenue, until it curves round to at the very top (after another junction) and turns into University Avenue. Walk the full length of University Avenue, until it hits the Ormeau Road. At the Ormeau Road, turn right and walk up the road. You go over a bridge, keep walking for another 10 minutes after that and you will see the Pavilion appear on your left-hand side. Total time - 40-45 mins. (there are quicker routes but more difficult to describe!)
From Central Train Station (Train) - Go out BACK entrance (down a flight of stairs from the Front entrance) of train station. This leads you onto a towpath beside the river. Take the towpath to your right, and walk all the way along it until it comes out on the Ormeau Road just beside the bridge. Then turn left over the bridge, walk up that way for about 10 minutes, and the Pavilion is on your left hand side.

Right that should be all for now!

This mightn't affect you as you're in a van but might be useful to others. If you're going through any toll booths that have no change given always check the change thing under it. We usually find at least a fiver in there which covers your tolls nicely.

If your in a van on the drogheda bypass say you have seats in the back and they will only charge the car rate. This doesn't work on any other toll in Ireland though. Anyone have any other toll or driving tips?

My top driving tip: get someone else to do it.

Roosky are the latest bunch to fall victim to the curse of McSherry. Apparently Andy phoned them up yesterday and told them that he'd kill them all if they played.
Either that or they had to pull out due to a family emergancy, I know what story I believe though.
